Grade for credit - Mike Williams - 01-09-2023

Hello all, I am short like 12 credits from getting my AAS at a local CC, but it is hard to get into the evening classes I need and do not want to mess with the brick and mortar time line.  I can transfer in the 12 hrs, i need a poly sci, history, algebra and sociology.

My options so far are clep, dsst etc. I would rather take courses in a format like sophia etc...I am open to any suggestions. Thanks

You can get three of those classes on sophia

You may be able to get Polysci from Study.com or Saylor, depending on your CC's transfer policies. The others can be gotten from Sophia.

The courses you've listed are pretty common Gen Ed subjects.  You can probably take them through another school that offers self-paced version.  I know there have been posts here (maybe even listing on the wiki) of schools that offer self paced RA courses; they will just cost more than Alt Credit methods.  Hopefully someone can guide you on a few of these schools that offer them, as I don't recall the names right now.

Arizona State has them. I think they are $400 per course. It would be RA cresits.

Does your school accept ACE credit, or do they only accept CLEP & DSST? How about TECEP exams?

No ACE, just RA from another college or the typical Clep DSST etc type of test.

As much as I would like to get my AAS from that school since that is where I started at. I think my ROI would be better off just doing ALT credits and then on to UMPI.

If i stayed on Campus, then my bill would prob be 1200 plus books and a yr to finish.

Then I'd go with ASU Universal Learner classes. It's $25 per class to start, then $400 per class to have the grade added to a transcript. If you get a bad grade, you only pay the $25 and nothing bad goes on your transcript. Unlike other colleges/universities (and most ASU classes), any bad grades simply do not exist.

Some of them are self-paced and start-anytime. Others are only available per a schedule.

Or you can do CLEP for Algebra, Sociology, History, and maybe American Government (if American Government counts as Poli Sci). CLEPs would be free through ModernStates, but as you may already know, they don't give you a GPA. If having a good cumulative GPA is important for your future, ASU Universal Learner classes give you grades.

CLEP can be free through Modern States - https://modernstates.org/

Rachel, have you taken some of the ASU classes? How was the Algebra one?
