UMPI BA-Accounting (2nd Bachelor Degree) - allvia - 04-15-2023

I've been considering completing the TESU Accounting certificate (I need two SDC courses), but since I'd have to pay the $1250 certificate residency waiver it struck me that I could probably earn a second bachelors from UMPI (BA-Accounting) for about the same cost. I currently hold a BSBA-GM from TESU, and a MS in Human Relations and Business from Ambert n. Looking for thoughts, recommendations, guidance, etc...

Have you considered the bsba accounting or bs from tesu ?
You may be able to see a clearer path where your first degree is from tesu. Provided you’re willing to pay the $3200. With that said most courses could be done through alternative credit. So you would be looking at roughly $4000. Umpi May be a tad cheaper , but it’s all contingent upon how fast you work.

I already hold a BSBA-GM from TESU (2018), so my only option with them for Accounting is to get the certificate.

I’m sorry. I meant BS. I may be the same as well.

Go for the UMPI (BA-Accounting).

1. If you ever decide on getting a CPA license, you will need the accounting semester hours.
2. If you ever decide on getting a MS in Accounting, you will need a BA in accounting because the TESU Accounting certificate will not be enough.

Do you work in accounting? Do you want to work in accounting? What are your future accounting plans? If you just want the certificate because it's only a couple classes and have no career use for it, you may be better off skipping this. If you want/need accounting in your job, then it may make more sense to get the accounting degree from UMPI because it will cover more accounting than a certificate. Some jobs may require an accounting degree and certificate probably won't cut it.

TESU will not let you get a 2nd degree in the same area - so a 2nd BSBA is off the table.

Personally, I don't think a certificate from TESU is a good deal.  $1250 for a cert?  No thanks.  You are better off at UMPI, although honestly, I wouldn't do that either.  I'd get a MA in Accounting instead, if I wanted to go into accounting.  Otherwise, I'd skip it all.

A lot of MA/MS in Accounting programs require X number of undergrad accounting courses to be accepted into the program. That's why I recommended the BA in Accounting from UMPI.

Yes  I understand this, but will they allow a BS accounting ?

The BSBA w/Concentration in Accounting is all they have, they don't have a BS in Accounting.
