What happens after BLS from UMPI? - PineapplePen - 06-04-2023 Hi all! Not sure if this is the right spot for this, so please redirect me if needed. I recently decided that UMPI is probably my best bet for a bachelor degree. Right now, I'm feeling like I need one ASAP. I’m curious about what masters programs will accept a quick UMPI BLS though. Has anyone just done the BLS at UMPI then been admitted for a master's with licensure at WGU? Or had success applying to a state university with their BLS for a 2nd bachelor? Will a state school accept the fact that I have a bachelors already or will they comb through every course and make me retake Sophia courses? For clarification, I am NOT planning to do the educational studies minor as I'm trying to get my bachelors in just a single term. This is VERY different from the path I had originally planned for myself so I appreciate all feedback. End goal: SpEd teacher or get a BS in communicative disorders and pursue graduate work from there (I know communicative disorders doesn’t have many CBE or test-out options, so planning to go the more traditional route if I choose this) RE: What happens after BLS from UMPI? - rachel83az - 06-04-2023 As far as I am aware, WGU isn't that picky with what degree you earn at the undergrad level. You're talking about this degree, yes? https://www.wgu.edu/online-teaching-degrees/special-education-masters-program.html I see nothing for that degree that requires a specific undergrad degree. Quote:The M.A. in Teaching, Elementary Education and M.A. in Teaching, Special Education degree programs requires a 2.5 minimum GPA (or higher, depending upon your state), or the competency-based equivalent, in your bachelor's program. That's the part you want to be concerned about. You need to check if your state requires a higher GPA. If so, you might want to take fewer Sophia/SDC courses and more UMPI courses. UMPI courses must have at least a 3.0 to pass the class; anything less counts as a "fail". So most students wind up with a relatively high UMPI GPA score. RE: What happens after BLS from UMPI? - allvia - 06-04-2023 What state are you in? Also is that the state you're hoping to become a Special Education in? Path options for becoming a teacher vary greatly from state to state RE: What happens after BLS from UMPI? - bjcheung77 - 06-04-2023 @PineapplePen, Welcome to the board, wow, tiny fonts! I'll fix that for you... Which UMPI BLS degree minor are you going for if it's not the educational studies one? You may want to add to this thread the following info you're missing from the template and addendum here, this will give us an overview and better picture of your situation: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-New-to-DegreeForum-How-this-Area-works RE: What happens after BLS from UMPI? - PineapplePen - 06-04-2023 (06-04-2023, 03:29 PM)allvia Wrote: What state are you in? Also is that the state you're hoping to become a Special Education in? Path options for becoming a teacher vary greatly from state to state I'm in California. And while I know there are alternate methods in my state, I am still choosing to do licensure through WGU (my original plan was to do alternate path but I've chosen against it). It may be a good idea to expand the information you provide us to include the following, this will provide some insight into your particular situation. We can either recommend the alternative test-out options COSC, EC (soon to be EU), TESU or competency based education providers such as PUG, UMG (UMASS Global - formerly Brandman), UMPI, WGU or another institution. RE: What happens after BLS from UMPI? - rachel83az - 06-04-2023 I've moved your post from the other thread to here. Please update the template with your specific information. ![]() RE: What happens after BLS from UMPI? - dfrecore - 06-04-2023 I know in my state (SC), they don't require anything special to become a SpecEd teacher (probably because they are so needed, beggars can't be choosers). For the alternate path I was looking at getting, ANY bachelor's degree and then a $300 online course, and passing the multi-subject praxis exam, was all that it took. |
