Human Biology vs. Microbiology for UMPI - EducationSeeker - 06-11-2023

Does Microbiology also meet the Biology Lab requirement at UMPI for the BABA Management and Leadership concentration? Is Microbiology an easier Biology Lab requirement in your respective opinion than Human Biology or vice versa?

Thanks,

EducationSeeker

I just finished my human biology and the lab still waiting for the la report to be completed. I really enjoyed the lab and gave me a deeper understanding of the human body. As far as transfer goes according to the wiki page it will transfer but you have to take both human biology and lab or microbiology and lab.

@EducationSeeker, Traditionally (and in this case as well), Human Biology is a precursor to Microbiology. Generally, students would take the Biology course before they take Microbiology... Some institutions require a Biology 1 course as a prerequisite for anything offered above/after that first year biology. Think of it as Biology 101, 102 and then Microbiology 201...

Worth a shot, the Bio W/ lab on sophia transfer did not work for me, and I have no idea how micro will transfer in since its a harder class

It didn’t transfer to UMPI? I thought if you take the biology and lab they will transfer.

This doesn't make sense.  If you took both the bio and then the lab from Sophia it should meet the requirement. Did you ask why it is not showing as meeting the requirement? Maybe there was an oversight made - it happens. Maybe resend the Sophia credits all together on the same transcript (?)

What do you mean Bio w/ lab on Sophia didn't transfer for you? If you took Human Biology and the lab on Sophia, you should check that UMPI has the transcript for both of those courses and contact your academic advisor to have this corrected.

i emailed jessica about it and they fixed it, but it came in as bio 103 & bio elective and remained like that until I said something

Transcripts are processed manually so there are mistakes occasionally. It's up to the student to check on these things and get them corrected. You don't want to wait for the degree audit after you finish your courses when they're conferring your degree. It would suck to find out you're missing a course after you think you've completed everything. And no one wants to take that science class at UMPI. ashkir's experience was dreadful. I've read similar horror stories to his.

That's great, I was confused what actually happened there, but as long as it was resolved, that's the main thing... I suppose upgrading to a newer system causes conflicts as they've not tweaked the system to remove the bugs yet.
