BLS Management Minor Degree Plan + Pierpont - mohelena02 - 09-02-2023 Hi Everyone! Helping put together a degree plan for my brother's girlfriend. For context, my brother has received the Pierpont degree Info Systems AoC and is currently working on UMPI's BLS with PM concentration, so he will be helping her walk through this process. Some notes on her situation:
Thank you so much everyone! RE: BLS Management Minor Degree Plan + Pierpont - rachel83az - 09-02-2023 She only has 1 UL class, so I wouldn't exclude her from being able to do the BABA. Based on her career goals, the BABA might be more useful to her than a BLS. Shortcuts are only shortcuts if they lead to an optimal outcome. Otherwise, it's just a waste of money in the long term. As for what she's got, she's got a good amount of GEC classes, IMO. Aside from the ones already marked, I see: COMM-103 Critical Thinking & Listening - 4C, possibly ART-101 - 2D (or 2E) ENG-104 - May count as English Comp II? GEOG-102 - 5A That's potentially 22 credits of GEC, which should just barely leave enough to fill the electives. As far as Pierpont goes, I don't see anything except maybe the Events Management AoE that she could do right now. With her 3 REC classes, she might only need Hospitality 101: Introduction to Hospitality and Hospitality 105: Introduction to the Tourism & Travel Industry from SDC. That's not really a significant detour, if that's an AoE that she really wants. Definitely ask Nancy Parks first before taking the classes, though. Thank you so much for your response! I will rework the plan for the BABA. It helps a lot to get a second set of eyes on these things because I can view things from only my lenses which may not be helpful. For Pierpont, should she apply and then ask Nancy about the classes or ask first before applying? Thanks RE: BLS Management Minor Degree Plan + Pierpont - rachel83az - 09-02-2023 She should enroll and then talk to Nancy Parks about her desired AoE. And if she finds out that it's not actually possible to get that AoE with SDC courses, please let us know! RE: BLS Management Minor Degree Plan + Pierpont - bjcheung77 - 09-02-2023 Hmm, it really depends on the student and what they are looking for, their needs/wants... Here's an example of what the student can do (both your bro and the SO)... 1) Complete the Pierpont BOG AAS with a general business emphasis, or something else you're interested in. 2) Complete the UMPI BLS with a double or triple minor, such as Management, MIS, PM (because you need to fill your electives). 3) Add the UMPI AALS to your program list and 'forget it', once you're done with the BLS, it is automatically complete The reason for the AALS is it's a generic liberal studies degree, if you wanted to major in something else down the road, you can ladder with this. There are no extra energy, money, time spent on the Associates degrees, you want to keep working on the UMPI BLS. |
