Planning RA credits from ASU for a BA in Psychology at TESU - Herb191 - 09-03-2023
Hello everyone,
I have started working my way through my credits for my BA in Psychology at TESU. So far, I only have 8 ACE credits. Soon to be 11 ACE credits, as I am currently working on English Composition II. You can see my degree plan here: Degree Plan
I would like to start knocking out all my RA credits and plan to use ASU for this. The main reason I am planning on using ASU is that I like that I can retake classes until I get the grade that I want. I expect to apply to a master's program sometime in the future and would like high grades on my transcript. I also am not a big fan of essays, so I created a list of classes that should get me the required RA credits that I need and play to my strengths (mostly math classes). I am posting the classes I am planning on taking at ASU here to make sure I am not missing anything. Thanks in advance for taking a look.

Keep in mind that ASU's Calculus is not on the most intuitive platform. Some students have enjoyed it, but I couldn't deal with it. I didn't find the math to be that difficult, just the whole platform/interface. If you don't need Calculus for your Master's degree, I'd honestly skip it. Pick something else. Maybe BIO100? No essays there.
Algebra and Precalculus use ALEKS. Solid, 10/10 interface/platform/program. I'm not sure if Statistics also uses ALEKS, but I would assume it does. If so, great. If not, you might wind up needing to take something else there as well.
If you do take Calculus, whether at ASU or at Sophia, you might want to consider adding the ASNSM Math to your degree plan. For the ASNSM Math, you need 3 credits gen ed math, Calculus 1, and 15 credits of any other maths. With Algebra and Calculus, you've got the first bit down. Stats and Precalc are 6 credits of the needed 15. Take Intro to College Math at Sophia for 9. Maybe Geometry or Math 101: College Algebra (which counts for MAT-1150 instead of the usual MAT-1210 Algebra) from Study.com and/or CSM Learn. There are also 2 certificates on Coursera that are non-overlapping with ordinary Statistics: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Coursera#SAS

Thank you. I had not thought about adding ASNSM Math. It also sent me down a rabbit hole on double majors. I am most interested in the BA in Psychology, but I am now considering adding ASNSM Math and a BA in Computer Science. Is it true that if planned correctly, I could get two BA's and ASNSM without adding a lot of additional credit requirements? I have been writing code for many years so I feel like the additional programming classes would be "easy credit".

If you haven't (really) started on your degree: yes.
Essentially, the BA Computer Science would use the AOS of the BA Psych as its electives and the BA Psych would use the AOS of the BACS for its electives. TESU would count this as a single degree.
It is a bit more work than just one or the other, because you wind up taking more UL classes than you would by pursuing only the BACS or only the BA Psych. But plenty of students think it's worth the extra effort.
At a rough estimate, you'll probably end up graduating with ~135-140 credits instead of the usual 120. I haven't done a full comparison of the two degrees to double-check, though.

@Herb191, Welcome to the board, without more details it's a bit hard to decipher what your best route is, each action plan requires a bit more info and that's the main reason I get people to fill in the addendum/template, this will provide us with a better picture or overview of what you are looking at for your educational journey.

If you add the BA in CS, you should also be very close if not already complete on the ASNSM in Computer Information Systems. Just something else to think about.
