Withdrawing from TECEPs Gives a "W" Grade - mariobros1985 - 09-12-2023 Hi everyone! I ended up signing up for 4 TECEP exams, but realized that I wouldn't be able to do all of them due to all the remaining classes that I have to do at Metropolia and some other family obligations that I have. I realized that the TECEPs weren't very important unless I wanted to finish another Area of Study (which I was thinking about just in case) and I wanted to prioritize the Metropolia classes so that I could get an evaluation by ACEI and TESU as soon as possible so that I could sign up for classes at TESU by January. I ended up deciding to drop 2 TECEPs and I think it was a mistake because I casually looked at my transcript today and it says that I have 2 "W"s now. I think I should have either taken them and failed them or not have dropped them at all and not have taken the tests. Has anyone else had this happen before? I find it weird that that would happen when I think I saw on here that there wouldn't be any consequence to dropping it. I also find it weird that TESU would do this, but not also record a failed TECEP on the transcript. The only good thing, I believe, is that it's not like an F grade that would affect the overall GPA. However, TECEP is treated just like any other course option for ENROLLMENT purposes. If you dropped a course after the census date, it would show up on your transcript as a W RE: Withdrawing from TECEPs Gives a "W" Grade - mariobros1985 - 09-12-2023 (09-12-2023, 07:59 PM)fmsoa Wrote: "I find it weird that that would happen when I think I saw on here that there wouldn't be any consequence to dropping it" Well, that's quite unfortunate and very weird that TESU would have this rule if there's no consequence to failing a TECEP, but it is what it is. Hopefully, someone comes across this in the future and finds this helpful so that they may rethink the option of dropping the TECEP and instead choosing to take it or probably being enrolled but never taking the TECEP. I also came across TESU's Earning TECEP Credit page, but they don't mention there that you will be getting a "W" on your transcript if you drop the course. Honestly, that page needs to clarify that more. RE: Withdrawing from TECEPs Gives a "W" Grade - GameSlinger - 09-13-2023 Yep, that would be good info to know ahead of time. I am sure there is a max number of W allowed stated somewhere, but unenrolling from a free TECEP should not be what impacts that. It should be only for withdrawing from actual classes. RE: Withdrawing from TECEPs Gives a "W" Grade - rachel83az - 09-13-2023 I agree that that is very weird. We don't have a lot of people who withdraw from TECEPs, and I don't remember anyone mentioning this aspect before. Maybe it's a new policy? I have no idea. RE: Withdrawing from TECEPs Gives a "W" Grade - jch - 09-14-2023 The new student self-service portal exposes a different type of student transcript we couldn't see before. Those records have always been in the system, but didn't show up on the old academic evaluation or unofficial transcript pages. The new transcript is much more official looking but also includes these other records. RE: Withdrawing from TECEPs Gives a "W" Grade - bjcheung77 - 09-15-2023 Cool, let me test that new portal out and see what's new... I was getting errors logging into it on launch day, I knew issue would occur and had to wait until they get it all online and fixed... Oh, and that is the main reason you read me saying "add it and forget it for the medical terminology TECEP"... as when you forget the TECEP, you're enrolled for another year without having any letter grade or CR/NC, W, whatever else may show on your transcripts... RE: Withdrawing from TECEPs Gives a "W" Grade - LevelUP - 09-16-2023 I know when you fail, nothing shows on your transcript since that was the case for me. There was no mention of any TECEP. It's pretty common for students to withdraw/drop courses so that shouldn't be much of a negative on your transcript. RE: Withdrawing from TECEPs Gives a "W" Grade - dfrecore - 09-17-2023 A "W" doesn't count against you - it just means that you withdrew after the deadline. It does not impact your GPA. It does not impact your GPA. The issue really is more about clarification. There are some schools that will limit someone to a maximum number of W's. If you reach that number, any further attempts to withdraw would result in an F. Excelsior is an example of this. When submitting transcripts for Masters programs, they may have a stricter requirement than the initial school so having an unnecessary W on the transcript is detrimental, even if it is not impacting the current school. |
