TESU degree planning advice or other options - needthisdegree - 12-01-2023 Hello everyone, looking for some help as I am interested in TESU with the double major potential, have seen the degree plan to double major in CS and another major and curious more about that and the options available for the 2nd degree and the classes/how many required for different majors. TESU seems like the best option upon the little research i did but am open to other recommended schools. I have completed community college with an associates in business. Your Location: Texas, United States Your Age: 23 What kind of degree do you want?: Computer Science/CIS/MIS Current Regional Accredited Credits: 56 Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 9 Sophia Credits (Philosophy, Business Principles and Introductory Chemistry) I have a flexible timeline as i plan to work full time (not currently working) and can study at night and weekends I am also looking to minimize the cost to attain my degree but am flexible with that too Hoping to work in IT RE: TESU degree planning advice or other options - LevelUP - 12-01-2023 Besides pursuing a double degree in BA CS and BSBA, you could also opt for a combination of BA CS and another BA major, such as History or Psychology. A double major results in one degree, while pursuing both BA and BS degrees concurrently is considered as two separate degrees. Additionally, consider obtaining an AS in Math if you choose to pursue the BA CS. TESU and UMPI serve as excellent examples of an All-You-Can-Eat-Buffet of majors and subjects. You have the option to exceed the minimum 120 credits and include additional courses on your transcript. However if significant time and money can be saved, a single degree will suffice. I will look through the wiki and forum posts and see. RE: TESU degree planning advice or other options - etirflita - 12-04-2023 Welcome! I had already completed a BA from a brick and mortar school before starting down this path, otherwise I would have gone for more at TESU. I did however get a second BA in Computer Science, an AS in Business Administration, and two certificates (accounting and computer information systems) from TESU simultaneously with the help of this forum and a boat load of Study.com courses that transferred in and covered requirements. It's definitely doable! Oh ok, I was honestly confused with the difference between an Major and Degree, It is not important for me to double major or attain a dual degree, but if minimal effort is required for me to achieve that i might as well. I have posted more details of my current educational background and have been looking at the Sample TESU BACS and BSBA CIS Double Degree Plan (Rachel83az Version) which would be good for my career goals and be good on my resume. An BSBA in Finance does also interest me. I am just trying to fully understand and plan which courses I should begin with and have a plan going forward. Whichever Degrees/majors I complete at TESU, I would like to utilize the 16 credit residency waiver. RE: TESU degree planning advice or other options - bjcheung77 - 12-04-2023 Hmm, after reading your info over, it's got the bulk of the info we need. I suggest you do the trifecta of certs, degree, experience, and decide on the degree/institution. You're in Texas, I suggest doing the TAMUC BAAS Organizational Leadership since your AA was in Business, another option is the UMPI BABA PM&IS instead of a double degree with TESU. You can add to that the Coursera Plus Certs, TEEX, Sophia.org, CLEP/MS Business/IT related classes to get you the extra CIS/MIS experience, knowledge, and more hands on learning... Yes, I definitely do intend to acquire some IT relevant certifications along the way, while i have gotten an AA in Business I am really seeking a more technical bachelors in CS/MIS/CIS. Is there a particular reason you suggest the TAMUC BAAS? TESU degree planning advice or other options - jch - 12-05-2023 At TESU, graduating with multiple degrees has minimal additional cost over a single bachelor's degree. Getting the general education requirements done once will satisfy (or nearly satisfy) them for other degree programs. Credits used in bachelor's programs can, subject to limitations and caps, also be applied to associate's or other bachelor's programs. For example, if you complete the BSBA-CIS, BSIT, or BACS, you can likely get the ASNSM in Computer Science for 'free' because all the requirements are likely to be satisfied. As long as you graduate with everything at the same time, there's no additional graduation fee or residency waiver for multiple degrees or certificates.
