WGU MHA - Cocolisa1 - 05-14-2024 I was informed that I can't join the MHA program at WGU due to my lack of work experience in the field. I hold certifications as a Drug and Alcohol counselor in NY and as a phlebotomist. Suggestions on where I can go to GRAD school? I have a B.L.S. in Management and Pre-Law from UMPI. Maybe public health instead; I'm not sure at this point, honestly, and any help will do. thanks RE: WGU MHA - Vle045 - 05-14-2024 What about this one? https://ace.edu/degree-programs/masters-degrees/masters-healthcare/master-of-healthcare-administration RE: WGU MHA - Cocolisa1 - 05-14-2024 Thanks I will take a look at this school they have a lot of programs! , but I don't want to run into the same issues again. Thinking I should maybe not even look into anything health related at this point without a job in the medical field. RE: WGU MHA - freeloader - 05-14-2024 The WGU MHA requires health care experience, but their MBA—Healthcare Management does not. If you want WGU, CBE, etc, why not that degree? RE: WGU MHA - Cocolisa1 - 05-14-2024 WGU has had me pingponging too much since the start and it's really getting too much for me emotionally. If they'd had Public Health perhaps but they don't even have criminal justice or higher education masters either. I just don't want anything else pertaining to all Business RE: WGU MHA - bjcheung77 - 05-14-2024 Not everyone needs an MBA... If you did take 3-4 classes for your UMPI BLS that can be used towards the MAOL, I would go for the UMPI MAOL instead... The disorganization and delays of last session was so horrendous that they made me want to switch schools. Lucky Discord had great support but no thank you lol not happening. "Lack of work experience" is so subjective. Volunteer for a healthcare administration assignment with a blood donor organization for a month, then reapply if a school like WGU appeals to you. There are many MHA programs, but I think the MBA with a concentration in healthcare administration will offer better utility. With a BLS in management from an RA school like UMPI, you can do much better than WGU! While serving in the military, I earned a BS from Regents College, now Excelsior U. I leveraged that RA degree to earn a master's from a top-notch state university. Don't sell yourself short by attending a third or fourth-tier online school when your resume can highlight a first or second-tier university master's degree with the same level of effort and cost. Additionally, public health is a degree that is too narrowly focused, which makes it difficult to get a return on your investment. The MBA offers a much broader education that has utility. With your certification in substance abuse counseling, have you considered a Master of Clinical Mental Health? I'm horrible at math and it's my weak point also another reason to why I'm not too keen on doing an MBA.(05-14-2024, 09:11 AM)Cocolisa1 Wrote: I was informed that I can't join the MHA program at WGU due to my lack of work experience in the field. The MPH should have a math course in biostatistics. My master's in business had a statistic in management course which was difficult but doable. Most master programs offer some sort of statistics and research course. |
