Getting ready - truckintx - 07-26-2008 I was referred to this site by my academic counselor from UOP. I need 6 credits of science and 3 of a math. I have been searching the forum and have found some very useful and great information but I still have some questions. For my 6 credits of science, I was interested in taking the Natural Sciences exam to satisfy that. I noticed that on IC, there is only the biology section to study for. For those that have taken it, how did you study for the other portion? When you took the test, was it easier or harder then what you expected? I have not seen to many responses about math credits and wanted to see which math test you took and how you prepared. Finally, between Dantes and CLEP, which would be the better option for my tests? I have just completed my last class at UOP and just have these credits left to complete my degree. I plan on testing for both of these tests in months time. Thanks Getting ready - Ronny - 07-26-2008 I took both the Biology and the Natural sciences exam just over a month ago. I only studied for Biology which I passed first. Two days later I took Natural sciences with no further prep and passed easily. Natural sciences is a cakewalk if you know Biology because it's 1/2 Biology. I basically got 12 Semester hours of credit for the same Biology knowledge. If you were going to study for just one Natural Sciences would be easier, it's generally at a much lower level than the Biology exam. Good luck! What level of math are you required to complete for your major at U of P? The College Algebra CLEP is not too bad but I know that some colleges require higher level math requirements than just College Algebra. Also, how do you rate your mathematical ability at this point? You may serve yourself well to go to the Peterson's website to try a practice exam. I use Peterson's to guage my ability before I take an exam in almost every case. I think this is paricularly useful for assessing your current level of ability in mathematics. Keep us posted... Getting ready - truckintx - 07-28-2008 my math will either be college algebra or college math. Getting ready - truckintx - 07-28-2008 For those who took the Natural Science test, what Biology portion was on the test? What should I focus on. Getting ready - bzptc0 - 07-29-2008 You need to check the math requiremenet with your advisor. I have to take Statistics. I'm watching the Berkeley webcasts, have the idiot's guide workbook, and am using instantcert. Watched a few of the Anne Mellenberg videos, but found them really boring. I tend to overprepare, but like to feel comfortable before making the almost 3 hour drive to the testing center. I'm taking the DSST, maybe next week. It would be easier to study for in my opinion. Either way, your going to end up earning 12 credits for those 2 exams. Both REQUIRE study, and not just a skim. (unless you are a natural math/science person, which I gather you are not since you saved them for last LOL) |
