Combined M.Ed. & Ed.D from RA College (Upgrad) - Messdiener - 12-28-2024
Upgrad is offering a combined M.Ed.-Ed.D. option in several different areas of education:
- Master and Doctor of Education in Emerging Technologies in Education
- Master and Doctor of Education in Online Learning and Education Technology
- Master and Doctor of Education in K-12 Educational Leadership
- Master and Doctor of Education in Higher Educational Leadership
- Master and Doctor of Education in Curriculum Studies and Learning Sciences
For both the RA master's & the doctorate, you'll be set back roughly 13,000 US dollars, depending on where you are in the world. I don't think I've seen a better deal out there for this combo.
The estimated time for completion: 30 months.

I have two citizenships. I could theoretically apply as an international student. When I went to the page, the prices were listed in Singapore Dollars and there was no information about people coming from another country. I can't be bothered to make an account just to test out if the pricing changes depending on country of origin.

Intriguing, I think this is the second time I recall that Upgrad and similar programs are priced much cheaper for international students. I forgot which post, but I mentioned if there were pricing differences for countries, such as the ones in Africa or Asia (South East). I'm going to have to search the board again and see if there was one, I think I mentioned VN or some other country where Upgrad or an affiliate offered a doctorate for about the same price. This is even cheaper as it offers the Masters & Doctorate!

I can't speak to their rules regarding foreign residence or citizenship. However, playing around with different VPN connections did result in slight variations in prices. Here are a few examples:
- Chile: 16,500 USD
- Costa Rica: 16,500 USD
- Egypt: 13,000 USD
- Georgia: 16,500 EUR
- Poland: 16,500 EUR
- Malaysia: 61,900 MYR (about 13,850.74 USD)
- Singapore: 22,100 SGD (about 16,268.03 USD)
- Vietnam: 330,000,000 VND (about 12,965.37 USD)

Don't quote me on this, but I believe it was Southern New Hampshire University that had separate degree offerings at discounted prices in Asia and Latin America.
Tangentially related, I also recall us talking the University of the Incarnate Word, having cheaper Spanish-language degrees offered through a branch in Mexico.

Looking back more closely at the site, there's one other interesting find:

Thus, depending on where you live, whether you're certain that you'll go through with the whole program, and are sure that you like working with Upgrad, you could get this dual degree offering for as low as 11,050 US dollars.

Why does it make sense? College is unaffordable to most in the US. College grads are typically in debt up to their eyeballs here and hope to payoff their loans before they die.
The way I understood it was that they were trying to offer slightly better prices to those in low income countries. I'm not denying that US-based students suffer from major debt, but their earning potential is significantly higher than in many developing nations. For example, one of the cheapest tuition offerings was for students in the Philippines, at 13,000 USD for dual degree option.
Using them as a point of reference, the average household in the Philippines made 353,230 peso last year. That's roughly 6,102 US dollars at today's exchange rate. (Link)
As another point of comparison, we can look at another country discussed earlier in this thread: Vietnam. Their most recent data available (2022) shows a median household income of 2,409.689 USD. (Link)
In comparison, the average US household brought in $80,610 for 2023. (Link)
So, would it be nice for US-based students to have a break on tuition, surely. But do these discounts for students in the Philippines, Georgia, Poland, and beyond offer these students a chance to receive an American education at a slightly more affordable rate? Definitely! Many would still need to borrow or save for several years in order to even reach this goal, but providing this discount makes it within reach for some.
