BA Psych and BA minor? - Educated Wombat - 12-30-2024 New thread for my own UMPI journey! I am planning to pursue a BA in Psychology and possibly a minor in business administration. Before I post my degree plan for feedback and suggestions, I am a bit confused on how the credits transfer for a minor. For example if I plan to transfer 90 credits for the BA psych major, I can still transfer in credits for the minor but they cannot be the same credits I would use towards my major, correct? I hope to enroll at UMPI in May after I finally complete my associates degree
RE: BA Psych and BA minor? - bjcheung77 - 12-31-2024 Great thread post with some basic info and please do post the degree plan... Having said that, you need to work strategically and transfer in the max of 90+ credits into the degree. Your understanding of the transfer process should be simplified, it's 90 credits total into the degree itself, not 90 for the major and X for the minor. You can transfer in more than the 90 required, but only 90 will go towards the degree. Essentially, you're transferring the general education requirements, the electives, and the first few classes that can be transferred in for the major. Link: https://www.umpi.edu/yourpace/academic_programs/ba-psychology/#courses Basically, this transfer process is actually very similar to most institutions we recommend... Essentially, from the link above - The program includes 40 credit hours of general education courses, 45 credit hours of Psychology/core courses, and 35 credit hours of electives. That basically means, to transfer in your general education, some of the major/core courses, and for your elective credit, throw your classes you need for the minor into it. That's it! Minors are only 18-24 credits, you've got 35 of them to transfer in, thus, the minor can be all transfer credit (if all can be transferred in). A UMPI minor requires 9 unique credits that do not overlap with another major or minor you will receive. RE: BA Psych and BA minor? - Educated Wombat - 01-14-2025 Thanks for clarifying. Here are my addendum & plan for a BA in Psych w/ minor in Business Admin. I would appreciate feedback. I’ll graduate with my associate’s in May & want to start the following semester. Can I apply before I graduate? I took extra Sophia courses so plenty should transfer. I had planned on a master’s in social work or counseling, but honestly not set on this anymore. My experience is mostly admin in non-profits so I'm not sure how I can combine both and what masters would be most useful. Any suggestions on my plan and path would be appreciated.
