Pima Community College - Free for-credit courses - CollegeStudentAC - 02-17-2025 I found this school through a Reddit comment. I'm surprised nobody knew about this. https://www.pima.edu/academics-programs/courses/success-support.html https://pima.edu/admission/apply-to-pima/index.html RE: Pima Community College - Free for-credit courses - Avidreader - 02-17-2025 Are the free courses just those 5 career guidance and success ones? Update: looks like it is open to any 100 freshmen online course! Cool, they have American Sign Language! RE: Pima Community College - Free for-credit courses - bjcheung77 - 02-18-2025 Hmm, technically, you're looking at the classes and many of them have $0 in the fee column. This is just for the material fee, such as textbooks, and so on. The only classes that are free are the Success Support Courses, STU10X's, plus the HON 101 and HRP 100, as per the link above. RE: Pima Community College - Free for-credit courses - Avidreader - 02-18-2025 A huge bummer, but good to know this info! RE: Pima Community College - Free for-credit courses - Captainrekt000 - 02-22-2025 Thanks for this great find! If one was somehow able to take HON 101 as a non-degree-seeking student, the total cost for these would be $89.78 for 11 credits! ($8.17/credit). It also appears that these courses are offered every semester. I was able to apply for this and get my account set up within less than 1 business day. Just signed up STU 100 - College Success/Career Planng (1) and STU 106 - Choosing Major/College Sccss (1) ($44.89 fee). They use the same exact D2L Brightspace software as UMPI and ModernStates. The complete list is as follows: HON 101 - Honors Colloquium (3) - free HRP 100 - Success in Health Prof ( 1) - free STU 100 - College Success/Career Planning (1) - free STU 102 - Personal Finance (1) - free STU 106 - Choosing Major/College Sccss (2) - $44.89 fee STU 107 - Univ Trnsfr Explrn &Coll Succ (1) - free STU 109 - Making Career Choices (2) - $44.89 fee Not everyone understands ACE/NCCRS credits when I explain it to them so I like to keep a running list of dirt cheap or free online RA credits directly from a college/university that I like to recommend to people. It now goes: 1. ASU - CIS194 - the 1 credit IT course (1 credit) - $25 2. Clackamas CC - LIB101 - Intro Lib (0.67 credit) - $0 3. Jacksonville State U - 3 credit P/NP course offered every semester (3 credits) - $0 4. Luna CC - Up to 6 credits per semester - (6 credits/semester or 18 credits/1 year)3 $51/credit 4. Pima CC - These credits - (11 credits) - $90 RE: Pima Community College - Free for-credit courses - bjcheung77 - 02-22-2025 That's correct, people can use this towards the 15 RA credits required for the WV BOG AAS or towards the 30 RA credits required for the TESU degrees. Once they have the 15 RA credits, people can finish the residency requirements for TESU by taking 15 credit flat term to complete the remaining requirements of the Bachelors degree. A very interesting offering indeed if someone can get 15+ credits for insanely cheap... RE: Pima Community College - Free for-credit courses - Avidreader - 02-22-2025 Would be a good idea to add this info to the cheap sources of credit wiki. A very interesting offering indeed if someone can get 15+ credits for insanely cheap... One possible dirt cheap 15 credit (non-TESU RA) option is: (slight change to my post above) 1. Jacksonville State U - 3 credit P/NP course offered every semester (3 credits) - $0 2. ASU - CIS194 - the 1 credit IT course (1 credit) - $25 3. Pima CC - These credits - (8 credits) - $90 4. Luna CC - 3 credits - $153 Total = $266/15 credits = $17.84/1 credit !!!!!!!! Of course, this is subjective to whether or not TESU will actually transfer the Pima CC credits. A lot of times, TESU will not transfer courses they consider"developmental". Kind of like how many 4-year universities won't transfer anything that has a course number below 100. Edit: To take HON101, you need to be a part of the Pima CC honors program. Take a couple of placement test(s) and have a 3.5 Pima CC GPA. That is way too much work for the average degree hacker. This brings down the easy free credits to 8 total. RE: Pima Community College - Free for-credit courses - Iris - 03-27-2025 We live in Tucson. I took the online 8-week Biology class with Professor Wakefield at Pima to meet the UMPI requirement long before it was offered at Sophia. My 18 and 19 year old kids attend a mix of on-campus and online classes at Pima Community College and love it - they are future UMPI students. Apologies, couldn't help the shameless plug.
