BA in History from TESC - limited Clep acceptance? - cframe - 08-17-2008 I could search the forums, or ask for assistance ... I'll ask: My 15 year old son is clepping his way through the requirements for a BA in History from TESC. His junior year he plans on taking some courses at a 2-year college (free in the state of MN) and his senior year he might take some courses at a 4-year (again, free for High Schoolers) and to finish up. Question: Does TESC limit the number of credits from Clep or a 2-year and require a certain amount of credits from a 4-year? Thanks, Cheri BA in History from TESC - limited Clep acceptance? - bat21 - 08-17-2008 I think they limit Community College credits to 80 or 90 units, it is on their website, though. BA in History from TESC - limited Clep acceptance? - peacfulchaos2001 - 08-17-2008 Answer: This is a copy and paste straight from my eval. "11/20/07 80sh Limit: Credit Transfer Limitation from Two Year CollegesThomas Edison State College will accept a maximum of 80 semester hours(s.h.) of transfer credit from junior, county or community college toward a baccalaureate degree. Students are responsible for adhering to this policy." So TESC does limit the amount of 2-year credits that you can transfer, but I am sure we can all agree that 80 semester hours is alot. No where in TESC's catalog(or on my eval) have I saw anything about limiting the semester hours transfered from CLEP/DANTES/or 4-year schools. The degree itself can almost be completed with testing alone (two history classes will be need). There is no minimum 4-year transfer credit that I am aware of. BA in History from TESC - limited Clep acceptance? - bat21 - 08-17-2008 I have not seen anything with TESC limiting the number of clep or dantes tests either, and they are a lot cheaper. Cheri BA in History from TESC - limited Clep acceptance? - bawhitsett - 08-17-2008 Hi Cheri, Just to reiterate what others have said, my experience with TESC was as quoted above, up to 80 CC hours can be transferred, the rest can be made up of classes from 4-year universities, lower or upper level CLEP and DANTES, FEMA credits, whatever. BA in History from TESC - limited Clep acceptance? - originalbigjim - 08-17-2008 YOUR 15 YEAR OLD?!?!?!??!?!?! Poop man, I wish I had you as a parent. You know how cool that would be to finish your BA and you HS diploma at the same time? that is a heck of a jump start on life. My kids are still too young to read but as soon as they can I guess I have to have them start cleping. How far is he in completing his degree? As of today ... 45 credits (just finished his third FEMA today). He's a bright kid ... I find the resources and plot the course; he studies. It's a good fit. He started clepping in 8th grade, his younger sister in 7th. Never too early! BA in History from TESC - limited Clep acceptance? - TimeOut - 08-19-2008 Indeed! The system in this country lets kids down-start too late in everything. My own daughter is homeschooled-reading and doing basic addition and subtraction at three. Now it's my turn to CLEP so that I can complete the BSc Hons that I started in the UK before moving here... I'll ask:>> Hi Cheri, I'm also a homeschool to college facilitator I think you already have all of your answers, I just wanted to say hello and welcome to the forum! For what it's worth, I think that history will be an excellent path, and that blends well with homeschooling/testing/and distance learning. (we use Robinson Curriculum, so I am not at all shocked by your kid's testing, I think it's excellent.) |
