I traveled the world while taking online classes because it was cheaper than room and board at my college. I don't regret it.

This is a great example of thinking outside the box. One way to reduce college costs when attending a flagship or popular state college is to take CLEP exams, as many colleges allow up to 30 credits from CLEP, DSST, or AP exams.

Another option is to take inexpensive community college courses or ASU Universal Learner credits, which can boost your total transfer credits to around 60 credits. That means you could enter college as a junior—with only two years left to complete!

This article also makes a great point: you could travel the world for less than it costs to live in a cramped dorm with a roommate. It’s a win-win situation.

People often talk about the social experience gained from attending college on campus—but what about the social and life experience that comes from traveling the world?

Thoughts?

An example for those who take CLEP, AP, IB, dual enrollment, and alternative credits such as ACE/NCCRS recommended for credit, can do something similar, by getting 90+ credits while you're on a GAP year abroad. Teens or Youth would love these type of programs, in addition to those people, others including adults who are WFH or digital nomads who work in other countries, retired pensioners could take free education from community college or university while on travels as well...

As someone who has done both extensively, there is a MASSIVE difference between two.

I have spent many months travelling the world,  solo traveling, group traveling, family traveling and living in hostels, Airbnbs, sleeping in train stations etc etc. Its a great experience for sure.

But there is a MASSIVE difference between traveling and LIVING a college experience during your formative years....apples and oranges.

Wouldnt change my first college experience at 18 for anything and this is coming frpm someone who has been to 20+ countries. The two can not be compared, both very different life experiences. The dynamics of fleeting travel as a foreigner (solo or otherwise) and living in a communal place with other students at a similar life stage/age aren't even comparable.

wow, your experience is impressive and inspiring. i didn't perceive online education in this way at all. i was always worried that the quality would be bad and i wouldn't be able to cope with it. maybe i have discipline problems, so it was hard for me to study at home.
