Master in sports or recreation management - TennisCoach - 04-02-2025
Hi all, I'm back to the forum for some valuable advise. I graduated from UMPI MyPace in 2021 with BABA management & leadership. Since I work in the sports industry (head of tennis) I'm interested in pursuing a Master in sports or recreation management for employment purpose. I really wanted to enroll in a program in the country where I work (Saudi Arabia) but I didn't find any sports management master to attend in person as my main concern is doing an online program that wouldn't be accepted here by the authorities and the employer.
I found this university called Britts Imperial College University in Dubai, UAE that has partnership with Eucléa Business School Collège de Paris which is an accredited school in France and Britts Imperial offers classes in Saudi Arabia in a learning center called Big Academy. Britts Imperial says that the diploma will be awarded by Euclea Business School from France. There are videos on YT but it doesn't seem really legit. I thought about this option because it would, at least, make it look as if I went to classes in person, but the legitimacy of the school is my concern. The school said they are accepted by WES, NARIC and have an accreditation but I'm not familiar with all this. I'm looking in neighboring countries such as Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait as it's a 4 hour drive from where I live. I guess I need to be sure if they accept here in Saudi online degrees... Basically, you're going for MBA with a focus on Sports Management... I would just go for a general MBA and get some extra certs and experience in managing sports instead. You need to review your educational goals and see if the general MBA would do for you though, it's cost vs need. If your next career requires a specific sports management MBA concentration, then I would maybe go for that specific concentration, otherwise, a general MBA plus certs/experience probably comes out better.

Any additional certs would be a good addition. Cost is not a concern as long as it is less than 15k and doable in one year maximum. My biggest issue is I'm afraid online (even if accredited) wouldn't be accept.

Troy University has a good program. University of Alabama has an MS in Sports Hospitality management. I'd recommend both programs, but Troy can be completed slightly faster because of the 8-week classes.

I have 2 concerns: what's the difference between master of professional studies and master of art or science? Which one is better?
Is an online masters degree reputable if obtained from a RA recognized university? Does it have the same value as on campus masters? I know it might be different for bachelor degrees maybe, correct me if I'm wrong. But, I'm saying this because usually, especially nowadays masters degrees are pursued by people already having full time jobs and daily commitment like families etc... So it's more suitable to go online.
Bottom line, would potential employers know if it was done online and if yes could that negatively impact their decision?

I believe online degrees that specifically indicate your degree had been done online are extremely rare nowadays. It might show from your transcript, but most employers don't ask for them anyways. So the general answer is no, it doesn't matter where or how you completed your master's.
Your other question is kind of industry-specific. Do people in the sports industry care about what kind of master's it is? For example, in the K-12 school system, an MAT is sometimes seen differently than an Msc or MEd.
