High school senior path? - cljrmccoy - 05-31-2025 Your Location: California Your Age: 17 What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelor Current Regional Accredited Credits: From Bakersfield College: First Aide & CPR - 3 units Intro to Art - 3 units Enrolled in Eng 1A and ASL 1 in Fall. I will take ASL 1-4 over the next 4 semesters. Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: CRM-101: Basics of Criminal Law - Lawshelf 3 units CRM-201: White‐Collar Crime - Lawshelf 3 units CRM-102: Search and Seizure - Lawshelf 3 units GOV-204: First Amendment Law - Lawshelf 3 units CSM Math Certificate Any certifications or military experience?: No Budget: My parents are willing to pay for my bachelor's at my local University, so anything less than that is a bonus. Commitments: I homeschool and my schedule is pretty open. Dedicated time to study: 6 hours/day Timeline: I'd really like to enter the ASL interpretation program at my local community college in fall 2027, but I'd like to enter it with a bachelor's instead of going through the 2 years for my associate's Tuition assistance/reimbursement: My parents Thank you so much for any insight you can give! I'm open for any degree, but am not particularly math/tech inclined so I'd probably generally avoid those paths. I started off by using Smarterby1Degree, but I'm learning that there may be quicker, cheaper, easier paths so I'd love any suggestions you can give. RE: High school senior path? - bjcheung77 - 05-31-2025 Welcome to the board, great intro post with the addendum and template details! Since you're going to Bakersfield College, see if they have a dual credit program, apply all your ACE/NCCRS or CLEP/ModernStates credits to them if they accept these credits. Your best options are going to be Excelsior and TESU as you can transfer a max of 113/114 credits into their degree programs, the nice thing about this route is you can get the Associates from the local college by completing their residency credits as well! RE: High school senior path? - cljrmccoy - 05-31-2025 Smarter by 1 Degree says Excelsior now requires 16-22 credits directly with their school. Is that incorrect information? Is that incorrect information? Depending on the degree you're looking at, they're correct as they're also members of this board. We have a thread on this here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-EU-allows-113-credits-EXCEPT-BS-LA TESU WIKI: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Thomas_Edison_State_University TESU PLANS: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:TESU Essentially, Excelsior and TESU have made changes to residency requirements... It's virtually the same either way you go with the choices... You still need to take at least 90+ credits for transfer (and it can be the exact same 90+) then you can decide to finish at either institution the requirements. Review the WIKI for TESU and the plans to see which one you like. RE: High school senior path? - cljrmccoy - 05-31-2025 Do you have a suggestion for the most flexible TESU degree that would allow the most to transfer in? RE: High school senior path? - cljrmccoy - 06-04-2025 Okay, I've come up with this degree plan so far, but it obviously still needs some work. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-7iwmHGGJBFxa2o7WVfyNtSC7n83LdD8uRcKA2NuECA/edit?gid=0#gid=0 My questions so far: 1) Where do I put the extra classes I have listed at the bottom? Do I just fill up with the General Electives and History Electives with those general electives? 2) Do you have suggestions for my red-highlighted cells of General Ed Diversity, General Ed History, History degree Non-Western Civilization and History degree UL AOS Electives? 3) Would it be better to do a Liberal Studies degree with a Social Sciences focus? RE: High school senior path? - jg_nuy - 06-04-2025 # 1. Language classes may go into Humanities within your Gen-Ed. Lawshelf would go into electives. Based on my son's current plan at TESU: # 2. General Ed Diversity - suggest Sophia Sociology class General Ed History - suggest Study.com American Civil Rights History Non-Western Civilization - Coopersmith Yom Kippur War exam History degree UL AOS Electives - Study.com - History & Sys. of Psychology, American Civil War, The Holocaust, History of Vietnam War # 3. I'd recommend doing the History degree over a Liberal Studies degree, given your age. RE: High school senior path? - origamishuttle - 06-04-2025 I think I missed something - why TESU? Their RA requirements and residency waiver are major drawbacks. There would seem to be much better options, like UMPI or WGU. SNHU could be another good one because of the range of majors available. Even UoPeople could be an ok option. But again, I could have missed something? RE: High school senior path? - jg_nuy - 06-04-2025 You need to he 20 for UMPI. OP is 17. That's definitely something obvious I missed. ![]() Any thoughts on other schools? TESU just doesn't seem like a great option to me in this instance. |
