Can I transfer all courses and do 10 irrevalent courses to meet residency? - huiwh1998 - 06-02-2025
As the title says. Interested in doing a BSCS, but don't want to take any "CS-ish" courses, as my main goal is to collect certificates (I know it's weird, but why not!?).

I've to do:
Comparative Programming Languages (proctored course)
Online Education Strategies
Except for the 2 courses, which cannot be transferred, I'll take them at UoPeople, and following the above transfer guide, is that possible? Apart from 10 courses for residency, are there any more requirements? Could I just take random courses to meet residency? TIA!
(PS: Couldn't afford TESU's BACS but want to do something that is CS-ish, so I'm aiming for this degree.)

Basically, you can try to do that, I would get confirmation from UoPeople though... But the thing is, your transfers from Sohpia.org, Study.com, StraighterLine, etc, can't hit those requirements... Most of the ACE providers will be sufficient for the general education and electives, the major requirements are the ones harder to transfer into the degree.

There is a new course CS1111 which is not transferable either.
Random courses not exactly, I believe general education credits are by category and there is a requirement for certain number of courses, usually 1-2, from each category.
That shall be it. Though better double-check it elsewhere and with others and through the UoPeople catalog.
(People usually don't go this way so I didn't hear about Study.com transfers much but it looks they shall be ok. Rather check those, eg. on UoPeople reddit, whether they are confirmed transferable, eg. Discrete Math and Data Structures.)

From the Excel degree plan I found here, it seems that I only have to do :
CS 1101 Programming Fundamentals
CS 4402 Comparative Programming Languages (proctored course)
UNIV 1001 Online Education Strategies
Everything else can be transferred, including the gen eds, and the remaining courses (10 courses residency, excluding the above 3) can be electives (I guess?) Not sure do they have to be UL credits... Also, Tomas mentioned CS 1111, I don't know if that Excel degree plan is up to date tho...

It is a relatively old plan, not completely old but latest changes are missing.
CS1101 I believe can be easily transferred from elsewhere (if you know programming basics and need good GPA, it would be better done at UoPeople though).
CS 1111 is a new one.
CS 1104 was replaced with CS 1105.
Also check https://catalog.uopeople.edu/ug_term1_item/computer-science/bachelor-of-science-in-computer-science-bs-cs at the end there is a patway, courses must be done in the order outlined.

That's the thing, you want to use a spreadsheet and compare their catalog with the classes that can be transferred in. I highly suggest taking the classes in the major to learn the subject more. Transfer the max of 90 for general education and electives, as you want to focus on the major and learning that subject matter...

I have been randomly working on their ASCS program just for fun and was able to transfer in the majority of the CS proctored classes, with Software Engineering 2 and Programming Fundamentals being classes I had to take there. This is obviously not completely accurate for the full BS program, but I think you can finish most of it form transfers.

What do you mean by "learning path"? Is it like I've to take courses according to what they've given?
