Alternatives to Patreon and PayPal? Anyone have something setup already? - bjcheung77 - 06-13-2025 Anyone here use similar options to Buy Me a Coffee, Patreon? I want to use something similar to these two. And for purchase payments, I only use PayPal for now, but I know there are alternatives, such as the ones like Amazon, Apple, Google, Square, Stripe... What do you use for quick transfers, such as for donations, payments, etc? For now, I like PayPal as I don't have to keep entering my MasterCard or Visa details for purchases, it's safer in one spot than purchasing from each and every online store I visit. That's just me, I set things up differently. Are there better ways to go around things, yes, but I haven't found an easier option yet, maybe another alternative to Paypal... Been thinking of creating audio/info books on Amazon and self publishing... Just fishing for options right now, haven't set anything in stone, just yet... Anyone have something setup already? - Hotdogman1 - 06-14-2025 I read a lot of original novels, fanfiction, and translated works online through platforms like Royal Road, SpaceBattles, FanFiction.net, and AO3. Many of the authors I support offer extra content or early access through monthly subscriptions on Patreon. Some of those authors also have a separate Ko-fi set up for one time donations since they don't take platform fees on one-time donations/tips. (https://help.ko-fi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002506494-Does-Ko-fi-take-a-fee). I’ve mostly seen BMAC used by artists and podcasters rather than fiction writers but kofi/BMAC seem to serve the same purpose. I used to regularly purchase e-books from Amazon, but I’ve since stopped a couple years ago because of all of the digital ownership/DRM issues. It is quite common for RoyalRoad authors to self publish on Amazon and some also have it separately available for purchase on their personal website. I only purchase it on the personal website but I'm probably in the minority. I just realized I haven't directly financially supported a non-fiction author before. I usually borrow non-fiction books from the library or purchase them from a discount bookstore. |
