What kind of degree do you want?: any accounting, finance, business (I work in the finance industry and need a bachelors to check the box for HR)

Current Regional Accredited Credits: 64

• 55 credits accepted from Sophia/ACE via Pierpont

• 9 credits from UH–Hawaii CC (regionally accredited, included in Pierpont transcript)

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 64
Here’s a list of my completed Sophia courses (64 credits total):

Commitments: None, in between jobs and decided to pursue a degree, I have no kids or family to care for

Dedicated time to study: 20-30 hours per week

Hi everyone,

I’m currently planning to pursue the BLS degree with an Accounting minor through UMPI’s YourPace program. I want to transfer in my Board of Governors AAS degree from Pierpont, some courses from Hawaii Community College, and a lot of Sophia courses, including Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Business Law, Principles of Finance, Project Management, Marketing, Macroeconomics, and more.

I’m wondering:
  • Which additional minors can I realistically add to my BLS degree without taking too many more classes?
  • Based on UMPI’s rule that each minor needs at least 9 unique credits (3 courses not shared with another minor), which minors have the least overlap with Accounting?
  • Has anyone successfully added a second or third minor and how did you structure it?

I’m trying to avoid extra coursework unless it’s strategic, and I’d love to hear from others who’ve mapped this out or have gone through a similar path.

Great update post but it's missing some of the info asked for on the addendum and template, you should copy/paste the addendum and template into your post with the updated details, with a bigger picture of your scenario, we can help you further: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-New-to-DegreeForum-How-this-Area-works

As a recommendation, I would apply to UMPI.  It's best to have all your credits evaluated to know that will work for some class requirements.  You need to know where you stand at UMPI and what remaining credits are left and what can be transferred or must be done at the institution.

In regards to the minors, you can add any minor that is offered at UMPI, the main thing is, most of them need to be transferred from another source.  Unless you're just 1 or 2 classes away, you want to use minors available on the YourPace platform, otherwise it may be costly and time consuming.

Thanks for the helpful reply! I’ve updated my post with the addendum template like you suggested.


After reviewing UMPI’s YourPace minors, it looks like I’m only 1–2 courses away from completing the Management minor in addition to the Accounting Minor, which I’ll likely finish since it can be done entirely within YourPace.


I haven’t completed any of the Google certificates or TEEX freebies, just focused on Sophia and my Pierpont AAS AOE Business so far. Planning to apply to UMPI next so I can get my official evaluation and lock in my degree path. Appreciate the guidance!

The reason I asked is because UMPI has made changes to how they take Sophia.org and Study.com, other ACE providers are not affected. You should go for the BAS over the BLS as my recommendation from the previous thread. Thanks for the heads-up, I appreciate you pointing that out.

I did see UMPI’s updated policy regarding Sophia.org and Study.com. However, they also included this statement on their site:

“Students who began Sophia or Study.com courses before May 1, 2025, will still be considered under the previous transfer rules.”


I started my Sophia courses well before that date, so I should still fall under the old policy. I’ve been keeping documentation and screenshots just in case there’s any confusion during evaluation.

Also appreciate your suggestion about switching to the BAS instead of BLS, I’ll definitely take a closer look at that based on how the minors and credits line up. Still waiting on my full evaluation, so I’ll update once I have a clearer picture.

Basically, You won't be able to do the BAS until you get the 40+ technical credits, it really depends on what you need or want. Some like the BAS as it's an applied science degree, the LS is a liberal studies degree...

For most, the degrees are almost the same thing, but for the savvy degree ladder enthusiast, the BAS is slightly more flexible with the requirements (it doesn't need as many UL for your major/minors than the BLS and you can transfer into any area or portion of the degree).

At your age (which is two decades younger than me), I recommend taking that 20-30 hours and a little more energy/time to get the cheapies/freebies, this will get you a better balance trifecta of certs, degree, experience.

You might even opt for a double major or double degree, as there was a recent post in regards to allowing the BAS/BLS a double major. If you can complete everything in two sessions, it's only $1800/session, you just need to max your transfers.
