SDC Prem to CS = Have to start over?? - Abell7404 - 08-20-2025

Hi all--

I apologize if this has been covered. I looked, but if I overlooked, please feel free to point me in the right direction. I signed up with a Study.com Premium plan and have completed several classes with the idea that I'd get all the quizzes and assignments done and then switch to College Saver to submit assignments and take exams. When I went to change my membership, I see the following text as part of a larger message about switching (such as prorating, etc.):

"In addition, please note that your new College Starter plan has different course requirements than your current plan. Because of this, progress made on your current plan will not carry over to your new plan."

My panicked lizard brain is telling me that means all 5 of my upper level courses will have the quizzes reset and I'll have to start over. Has anyone switched over lately who can share their experience? The same message appears regardless of the version of College Saver that I choose, BTW.

I hope I'm misunderstanding, though I have no idea what the alternative meaning would be. It would be awful to think you might just decide to upgrade and be penalized for trying to give them more money every month. Plus why would anyone ever upgrade? I'd just close my account and start a new one to take advantage of a new user coupon, assuming I could find one.

Instead of quizzes, the updated courses have chapter tests, so they are shorter. The quizzes are available, but they are no longer part of the course. The course may or may no longer have a final exam, which is now unproctored and open book. Check the syllabus of your class for more details.

Basically, it really depends on the person and the situation... Their pricing model changed to $95/month for College Starter and $235/month for College Saver. Along with the change is the non proctored open book exams and a few others mentioned. Essentially, you're correct, you would need to use a coupon code (in my signature) and upgrade to the $235/month, all you can take per month. It is no longer restricted to 5 exams max, nor do you have to pay an extra $70/exam over the two they previously provided in the monthly subscription.

Thanks, both. I knew about the lack of a ceiling per month and the pricing model changes. What I was missing was that the quizzes don't count and it's now chapter tests. Appreciate the insight!

Basically... Yes, and it is now effectively much cheaper, easier, faster to finish than before! I mean, if you wanted 5 upper level classes, previously it would have been $235, + 3x $70/each extra exam, now it's just $235 for all 5. If you go for 6+, it's still $235/month... Note: The College Starter for $95/month only has 67 general education and electives, having said that, some of those gen ed and/or electives may go into a major or minor, plus, they have a small set of upper level classes as well. The College Saver option gives you the entire set of 220+ classes, not just limited to 67 classes as the Starter.
