Stressing - Cameron16 - 08-30-2008 I woke up in a panic this morning thinking of all that's ahead of me. I know this is the right thing to do for me and my family, I know that. But, how did you all get through the panic part to the real education part? Stressing - Epiphany - 08-30-2008 Step 1 Pick test. Step 2 Study Step 3 Take the test and pass Step 4 See step 1 It is easy to get confused, delayed, or off track with all the "noise" surrounding the issue. This can be a lot of fun. This can be hard work. This is not rocket science (at least not until DSST releases that exam). Take organization of your time seriously, and carve out plenty of time for your family. My hubby and I both have designated "school time" and we use it. You don't have to keep going, know and appreciate that every day you stay in school is your decision. Don't panic- it's not the work that's hard, its getting into a groove that makes it all balance out (and putting up with crap LOL). I believe the only difference between those who finish a degree and those who don't is stamina. Stamina is nothing more than deciding TODAY to keep going...worry about tomorrow tomorrow. Stressing - studyhard - 08-30-2008 Don't think of the whole thing all at once. It can be very overwhelming. Just think about what you have to do next. Also, I'm into small rewards. Finished a test? Yay! Give yourself a day off from studying and get a slurpie at your favorite coffee shop. Take a little time to decompress along the way and you won't wear out as much. And eat a lot of chocolate. hilarious Stressing - Saturn - 08-31-2008 Cameron16 Wrote:I woke up in a panic this morning thinking of all that's ahead of me. Stressing - TimeOut - 08-31-2008 If you have a set time to allocate to school each and every day, or week then it really helps. We homeschool and honestly I am not nearly as organised as I should be and often find myself struggling to fit lessons in. Get organised, and don't put schooling off for more fun things, and you will be fine. Stressing - dingbat - 08-31-2008 I give in to stress rather easily so I tend to plan very carefully to prevent unnecessary stressful events occurring on any regular basis. I think with the proper planning you can eliminate most of the stress associated with going to college and testing. Stressing - Sunshine - 08-31-2008 Yes, it can be overwhelming to wrap you head around what must be done. Don't panic, this is normal . Here are a few things that have helped me when I've felt the same way:1) Make a plan. Even if it's a vague sketch of what you must do to obtain your goal, write it out. If it feels like a TON of work and starts to get you down, just pretend you a drawing up this plan for someone else. 2) Study one test at a time, take your time to learn the info. There are a lot of great test takers on this forum who can whip out an exam in mere days. They are great resources for feedback and study material, just be careful not to plan your study time using their examples. Remember that everyone's study time will vary, and you want to give yourself every advantage to pass your exam. What's a few extra days/weeks of study compared to loss of time, money and confidence in your abilities? 3) Hang out in the IC Forum! Really, read through all of the posts, past and present. Not only will you familiarize yourself with information needed to navigate through this world of non-traditional ed, you'll be amazed and inspired by the folks who contribute. Best of Luck and stick around! S |
