MA in Happiness Studies via Centenary University - Maltus - 10-05-2025

Hey guys,

since I'm currently getting ready for my Exams an Fernuiversität Hagen I'm thinkg about what to do next.
Since I always was interested in positive psychology I looked into this MA in Happiness studies.

Normally I would avoid any programm with the word "studies" in it but this one would fit well into my coachingbusiness.
It is formally delvered by Centenary whic is RA nand H+ on Anabin. This very good since it would be leigable to start a PhD in Europe.
Only concern I have is: It only is 30 credits. Is that normal for Masters in the US? Seems a bit low to me and might caus trouble when trying to transfer tha Master's to Europe.

And the price is a bit stif at 17k USD I guess. Any thoughts?

There are may master's programs in the US that are 30 credits. That's not uncommon here.

A degree in happiness studies sounds so fake. $17+K for a degree in happiness studies sounds like someone is happy to part with their $$$ to make the receiver very happy. How exactly would this degree be acceptable for a PhD program in Europe or elsewhere? legiable? Do you mean eligible? If so you for sure want to make sure it would be acceptable. Even in the US people could have a difficult time with this program being acceptable for admission to a PhD program in psychology as they typically have specific requirements.

I thought ss20ts was being too harsh, but then I clicked through to the program and the course descriptions. A lot of them seem more focused on personal development, and it doesn't look very academic--no research mentioned and no cumulative project. I would looked for a psychology MA with a focus on positive psychology if I wanted to continue with further studies.

This degree is just a $17,000 therapy session.

The University of Pennsylvania offers a low-residency master’s or fully online undergraduate certificate in Applied Positive Psychology.

Thanks guys - that's what I also was thinking of: No research, no thesis. But the school at least is legit.
But as you said: 17k for a course including a "retreat", which will be done online, sounds a bit stiff...

But yes in theory and formally it could get you into a PhD-programm, if a University accepts you :-)

This "Happiness Academy" does not itself appear to be in any way accredited. They claim to have a transfer agreement with a private college in New Jersey to award credit and / or a degree.

Ding ding, you want to make sure it is accredited and go towards your future educational goals (in regards to transfers later).

Centenary University, which is a regionally accredited nonprofit university in New Jersey, has now launched an online PhD in Happiness Studies, which it describes as the world’s first.

66 credits at 1.116$ per credit.
