UMPI BAS to WGU Master's Program - colonelcamp - 10-15-2025 Hi Everyone, I just completed the BAS program at UMPI and am looking into my options for master's programs. One of the schools I'm looking at is WGU. One of the concerns I have anywhere I apply to is how my transcript might look to a given school. I tranferred in 150 credits including 100 sophia, 15 Coursera and 35 TEEX credits. Of course, I also completed the 30 required residency credits at UMPI for a total of 180 credits. UMPI accepted these transfer credits for the undergrad program I just completed so I'm guessing they would accept them for their master's program. My question is how other schools, particularly WGU might view these and would they even accept me. I know it's a lot of ACE credits, but I didn't anticipate wanting to do a master's program when I started this last year. Any guidance is appreciated! Thanks! RE: UMPI BAS to WGU Master's Program - wow - 10-15-2025 From what I have seen on the board, this will not hurt your chances of admission at WGU. Of all things, they are familiar with one another being that they are apart of the CBE system. Also, WGU accepts ACE credits from practically everywhere -- have you seen our wiki? They'll accept transfer credits from things that aren't even ACE, NCCRS, RA, or NA from a couple of non-recommended coursera courses. They'll gladly let you enroll in any of their Master's programs as long as you hold a bachelors and reside in the U.S. Best of luck in your graduate studies. But what you say makes perfect sense. Just paranoid I suppose. I feel much better now. Thanks! RE: UMPI BAS to WGU Master's Program - Jonathan Whatley - 10-16-2025 Some graduate programs have highly competitive admissions. But many online programs may have minimum floors e.g., GPA, but after that admissions are not competitive much. They are either not close to filling their maximum student seats or they can easily increase their maximum student seats by quickly adding staff, especially adjuncts. WGU programs are typically this latter type. That's why we're here. I was a student at WGU for some time and they are an excellent school. I have some discrepancies in how they offer their programs, but nonetheless, it is all around a great education. Maybe later on in life when things cool down, I might be interested in their graduate marketing program. One of the programs I’m looking into at WGU is the MS ITM degree. As I understand it, two of the required courses have exams so that’s not terrible. We’ll see where I end up!

I've taken a quiz or two across all of my master programs that I've done, but never any tests. I think WGU's grad courses should be strictly writing as you are mainly discussing about theory, bridging it with your experiences, and producing new knowledge and insights based off of those. Tests are great, but they are really only for testing foundational knowledge, something you should've established in an undergrad program/courses. RE: UMPI BAS to WGU Master's Program - DarrenfromKY - 10-16-2025 WGU would welcome you with open arms. You may even find that a few proctored exams instead of papers are a welcome break from writing. I completed the MBA in four months because the program offered a nice balance so I never experienced burnout from writing. If I finished a challenging class that required a proctored exam (C214 Financial Management comes to mind), I looked forward to writing essays on Ethical Leadership in the next course. You probably are already better prepared for a WGU master’s program (and the obligatory APA 7 papers) than many who did their undergrad at WGU (where citations/references are seldom required). I really enjoyed my WGU experience. Best of luck! |
