Like seriously, University of New Jersey - Trenton is right there. So is Trenton University, Trenton State, Edison University, Edison State University (just drop the Thomas), Edison institute of Technology, New Jersey State, New Jersey A&M.
Thomas Edison State University just sounds so much less legitimate then it is, but I guess at least its not Rutgers Global.

Thomas Edison is better known than Trenton, especially globally. He is associated with innovation and business success.
New Jersey State University is pretty much taken; the formal name of Rutgers University is “Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.” TESU isn’t like an agricultural and mechanical university, which is typically funded by an historic federal land-grant with a mandate to focus on agriculture, engineering, etc.

I like it. I started when it was TESC and I like the change to TESU. That's all I can ask for. It's accredited, it's been around a long time, and it ends in University lol that's good enough for me

Georgia Washington University, Thomas Jefferson University (People mix it up with TESU all the time), George Mason University, Carnegie Mellon University… they’re all well-known schools with similar names. I think you’re just being a little biased against Thomas Edison, lol.
No one ever made fun of TESU to me, but I did get roasted and make fun of for the name Excelsior University (One recruiter even introduced me to an interviewer like, “Here’s XXX, he’s got the 'best' university name on the planet, Excelsior University,” lol. That’s when I decided to just take it off my resume.
Honestly, If I lost all my memory, Thomas Edison State University would actually sound more legit than ALL of those private schools, because it has "state university" in its name, so you know it’s at least a legit university and not for profit.

What's the difference between schools named after other influential people in U.S. history and TESU? William Paterson, James Madison, John Harvard, Nicholas Brown, Thomas Hunter, Ashley Johnson... the list goes on.
Thomas Edison is highly influential in U.S. history and perfectly fits the narrative of naming a university after him, especially one located in New Jersey. Being an inventor, businessman, and researcher sounds like something that a university would want to mirror. In addition, his self-regulated learning (SLR) style also matches the same philosophy that TESU imagines for its students. I'm not sure what you're talking about. Could you explain further?

Interesting selection of names. After reviewing the list, none stood out as a stronger fit than TESU. From the comments, it also seems you may be the only one holding this view. As mentioned, back when the institution transitioned from College to University, there was a significant celebration around the new name. Since then, there hasn’t been any interest or discussion about changing it until your recent suggestion.
