UoPeople -- Dilemma about Bachelor of General Studies - sal1820 - 04-19-2026 Hi all, I'm currently pursuing a bachelor's of business administration from UoPeople. I have seven subjects left. At the end of the current term, I'll be left with just four courses for getting my degree. However, UoPeople is just on the cusp of launching a bachelor's of general studies. I'm really, really tempted in holding off on my degree or slow it down to a crawl so I can transfer to the general studies program when it launches. The thing is I already have a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. I got it from another country, but the degree is not fully valid -- I had a lot of trouble in gaining admission international universities abroad with my BBA. ENIC, a validation agency, also declared that my qualification is not equal to the regular four-year degree. Still, I worked for my old degree and show if off on my resume. I am conflicted about getting another business administration degree. It will not add much incremental value to my career, even if it can fix my degree recognition issues with entities like ENIC. What should I do, hold it off and wait for UoPeople to launch its General Studies program, or should I stick it out with the UoPeople BSBA? And I think your initial instincts are correct that you should finish their Business Administration program. But your conflict is understandable. I wish there weren't so much prejudice in higher income countries against degrees from schools in lower income countries. Even on these forums people have said some really disparaging and hateful things about them. But it seems that your lived experience is that since that prejudice exists that you'll do what you must for your career. RE: UoPeople -- Dilemma about Bachelor of General Studies - bluebooger - 04-20-2026 you should obviously stick with your current business admin degree at UoP a degree in general studies is pretty lame, I don't know why people get one with just a tiny bit more work they could get a psychology degree or history degree or really anything ... a degree in general studies just sounds like 4 additional years of high school RE: UoPeople -- Dilemma about Bachelor of General Studies - ss20ts - 04-20-2026 What would a degree in general studies do for you career wise? It may depend on the country but a degree in business typically goes further in one's career. A general studies degree is a liberal arts degree. It's of course not high school; you are studying college level courses. The degree will probably prepare you best for something like law school or a life of entrepreneurship since you are at all times taking a bet on yourself and being exposed to vast and unidentical subjects and fields at all times. I have a degree in business, and so much of it is repeated coursework. Even if you want to work a corporate job, a general studies degree will prepare you better for it than a business or accounting degree since you will probably end up with more knowledge. And knowledge is probably the only thing you are banking on when you decide to pursue a degree. |
