Liberty Online AA, BS, and Courses Taught in Spanish - Jonathan Whatley - 06-28-2026

Liberty University Online is launching an AA in Conversational Spanish and a BS in Spanish Communication, the latter with a cognate (specialization) in Translation and Interpreting.

Notable themselves, and notable as a source of upper-level courses taught in Spanish to plan a BA in Foreign Language major in Spanish at TESU. Confirm a course in Liberty’s course catalog: some courses in the major are taught entirely in Spanish, others not.

Note that Liberty’s on-campus BA in Spanish is a different program.

I wonder if Liberty has any kind of exit proficiency requirement for these degrees. I'd expect graduates of a Spanish Communication program to demonstrate at least a solid level of Spanish proficiency (e.g., around B1/B2 on the CEFR scale), whether through an exam, capstone, or oral assessment.

It would be interesting to see how they verify that students can actually speak and understand Spanish before awarding the degree.
