UOP Course Fulfill Info Lit? - sgtmaj - 09-22-2008 Does anyone know if Univ of Phoenix's Gen 300 satisfy Excelesior's Info Lit requirement? Has anyone tried to use UOP's course for that purpose or ar there any armchair advisors that might know? I will call advising tomorrow but any info from here would be helpful. Thanks for your input. Info Lit Outcomes from excelsior.edu Module 1: Introduction to Information Literacy This module explains the concept of Information Literacy and provides a brief overview of the history of the Internet. It covers the types of tools used to search the World Wide Web and touches upon issues pertaining to privacy, security, and online communication. Module 2: Selecting Information This module highlights the range of available information resources on the Internet and in libraries (both print and Web-based material). It helps students identify the characteristics of these resources, for the purpose of understanding [COLOR="red"]how to best select ones to meet their information needs[/COLOR]. Module 3: Learning to Search Students learn about the structure of databases as well as choosing and combining appropriate search terms. They also conduct a "live" search using an Excelsior College Virtual Library research database. Module 4: Evaluating Information This module introduces students to criteria used to evaluate the resources they find in print and online. It presents students with various evaluation scenarios and an exercise to help them practice their web site evaluation skills. Module 5: Legal and Ethical Uses of Information Students learn the basic concepts of copyright law, including their rights as both creators and users of information resources. The module also covers issues surrounding plagiarism and ways to correctly document resources used. Having taken Info Lit at EC I can tell you it could easily be completed in a few hours. There are some other alternatives as well if you search around these boards and maybe over at degreeinfo.com. Good luck... I took this class about six years ago and forgot that I had. There are plenty other sources for this credit that are more suitable, time and cost-wise. The going rate at the time I took this class was about a thousand dollars and 5 weeks and it was a requirement. That was before I knew what I was doing.
