Public Speaking Re-Evaluation - ncaagirl - 09-29-2008 Hi Everyone, I thought I would share my last test story . . . I posted in July that I'd taken the Principals of Public Speaking test and felt really confident. Well in August I received my score report to find that I'd scored 71 on the written portion, but failed the speech portion of the test. I was really flabbergasted to be honest - I've been training for 15 years, and even the proctor commented on how well I'd done on the speech. I read somewhere on the posts in this forum that you could ask for a re-evaluation of your speech, so I decided to try it. These were the last credits I needed to obtain my degree, so I was really hoping it would work. Thankfully, I received notification a couple weeks ago that they had changed my speech score to a pass. I wanted everyone to know that it is worth a shot if you really think you deserved a passing score. Unfortunately, because I was worried about the possibility that they wouldn't change it, I signed up, paid for and started a communication course on-line at the end of August. I quit as soon as I received the new score report - but it was too late to get any tuition money back. At least I was able to quit before the first essay was due! Public Speaking Re-Evaluation - gus - 09-30-2008 I'm sorry that you lost the tuition fees, I'm sure it was very annoying but you didn't know you were going to pass and I believe you did the right thing enrolling in the course (instead of risking it all and waiting another semester). I can also imagine what a shock it was when you learned about the speech part, especially after you and your proctor were so confident about it. On the bright side, you don't have to do all the coursework anymore and you've completed your degree requirements, congratulations, it's celebration time! Public Speaking Re-Evaluation - ricochet - 10-29-2008 Just curious how you went about requesting a re-evaluation. I too passed the written and (surprisingly) failed the oral. I was within time and thought I presented a strong argument. I didn't see anywhere to request a review. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks! Public Speaking Re-Evaluation - categ - 10-29-2008 Great story, good for you for going after what you deserved. cate Public Speaking Re-Evaluation - lmech - 10-29-2008 I had a friend in this situation. Apparently, it just depends on the teacher that is grading your test . Just call the main DSST toll free # on the DSST website. My friend also had a re-eval and passed. Just complain to them. They will do it. No charge. Good Luck! Public Speaking Re-Evaluation - ricochet - 12-15-2008 I just wanted to let everyone know that if there is any reason you think you should have passed the oral portion-take the time to ask for a re-evaluation. I did and I was passed the second time through. It concerns me that this seems to be a trend. I am both happy that I passed but angry that I was failed the first time. There should really be more consistency in their grading and evaluations. |
