I noticed that TESC only offers a GPA for course work completed at TESC. I haven't taken any courses at TESC and would not end up with a GPA.
I wonder if there are any courses that I can complete in a weeks time or shorter....I think I remember reading somewhere that someone had taken an EC class(maybe info lit) and completed it in a days time.
Are there any classes like that at TESC?
Any other advice for quickly getting a GPA at TESC?

I go to TESC and I am not aware of any classes like that there. At EC it is a money maker for them and I don't think TESC does it the same way. If what you say is true about them not accepting outside classes for the GPA, then I guess you are stuck having to take a regular class at TESC, albeit an easy one.
I was not aware that if you had completed a class elsewhere and you transferred it in that it would not affect your GPA? Is that true? If I do a class at Fort Hayes and transfer it in, will it be considered "CR" , or will it be a grade and affect my GPA?
"Only grades earned at the College will be considered in the calculation of the official Thomas Edison State College GPA. Transfer grades will not be used in calculating the official Thomas Edison State College GPA."
This answers my question, partially. But if I transfer in a C, what will it show on my transcript? Even though it won't affect my TESC GPA, if it is a C it will still be seen.

You could take a TESC exam,called a TECEP,you would get a grade for it...

Also- all my transfer courses came over with grades but were transcripted as "credit"

Everything is considered "CR" except for TESC classes.
I don't really mind one way or the other but I wouldn't mind having a GPA since I have ~3.6 from all my B&M credits.

I am very confused about the TESC GPA. On their website it says you can only get grades on your transcript from courses taken at TESC and then lower down on the same page under the "How to raise your GPA" section it says you can raise your GPA by taking the same course at another institution, getting a higher grade, and transferring it in. This doesn't make sense to me.
I called them and spoke to two different people. The first one said only TESC courses count for GPA. When I asked her about the "How to raise your GPA" info she transferred me to someone else. She said that all the courses transferred in upon enrollment will just get credit and courses transferred in after becoming a Thomas Edison enrolled student would get a grade.
Has this been true for anyone? Has anyone here received a grade for a course transferred in after they were an enrolled student at TESC? I'd love for this to be true but I am afraid to count on it.

It is true because if you get a low grade (or at least not an A) and you transfer a higher grade they will remove the first grade from your GPA. The actual grade from the transfer credit won't be factored in but it will keep the lower grade from affecting your GPA.

Absolutely not true! I think this new policy has them all confused. On my final transcript, I have one external grade from BEFORE I was a student (A) coming in as credit- and one external grade WHILE I was a student (A) coming in as credit.
My transcript shows:
My TECEP exams- credit
My CLEP / DSST exams- credit
My FEMA- credit
My Credit for courses taught- credit
My transfer course from before- credit
My transfer course from during- credit
My TESC online classes- graded
I think the only way to raise your GPA is to take TESC classes (and earn an A). Before people start doing that (at $175 per credit) use the GPA calculator tool (google it) to see if it matters. I think the more graded credits you earn, the harder it is to up the GPA. An "A" might only move you up .1 of a point. Use the calculator to play out "if-then" scenarios to see if it's even going to matter.

Yes, this is true because it REMOVES a grade, not because it ADDs a grade. A CLEP/DSST exam will do this too. In other words, you overwrite your bad grade in ENG101 by using the English Comp CLEP.
