Has anyone taken the precalculus test with no previous math class time? I am attempting to just study a clep review book and go for it. Any advice?
Thanks

Avi,

The CLEP Precalculus exam is extremely new. As a result, there may not be many, if any, here who have already taken this exam. So please don't take any lack of response personally.

Good luck,

I sent this to you in am e-mail but just incase people have the same inquiries I will post it to the thread. Is studying the review material for the algebra-triginometry clep in essence the same as studying for the calculus test? Basically are the almost the same material?
THanks in advance.
Avi

Avi,

The Precalculus exam officially replaced the "College Algebra & Trig" exam on June 30th, 2006.

I would assume that much of the same material is covered. However, the ratio of algebra to trig questions is different on this exam. Also, the style of questioning and the approach to the subject matter has apparently been adjusted too.

As I said, it's too new for anyone to be able to give you specific feedback, unless they have already taken it in the last two weeks.

My advice would be to go through the official CLEP exam description/breakdown and make sure that the topics in your Algebra-Trig book line up with it.

Best of luck to you,
Snazzlefrag

Avi,

Did you ever take the precalculus exam? If so, how was it? Any tips?

Since I have been very pressed for time and precal will take alot of time, I have not taken it yet. I ordered from Amazon the idiots guide to precal, and a book called precal demystified. I have also been boning up on algebra and I think I would be ready for an algebra clep as of now. I think that will help me alot for precal, but we will have to wait and see. I plan to study from both of the books I ordered and go and take the test. Good luck,
Avi

Avi,
I am looking at using idiot's guide and demystified for the precalculus test. Have you taken the test yet and are they enough to pass?
Thanks

Avi,

You do not say why you are taking precalculus. If you are taking the exam to meet the Excelsior business requirment for precalculus, be advised that the College Algebra CLEP counts as precalculus work. But perhaps you need this exam for another reason or different institution.

My understanding is that the precalculus exam conists of more functions, logarithms, and trig than the college algebra CLEP.

O.K. has anyone taken the precalculus CLEP and passed? If so I could really use some info on study materials, types of questions, ect.
Thanks

1Degree,

In April, bluetooth posted that REA was coming out with a book for this exam in June, so you might want to check into that.

I don't think anyone here (except adamriggers) has taken the Precalculus exam. It definitely sounds like it is a tough exam! Are you planning to take it because you are enrolled with Thomas Edison?
