CLEP/DANTES/Other exams for IT general credit? - dhecker - 12-29-2008

Hello -

I am completing my BS-IT degree at Excelsior. I am looking at options for finishing up the core IT requirements (another thread) and I will also need some general credits that apply to the IT component.

So far I found:

DANTES Introduction to Computing
DANTES Management Information Systems

I already have 6 credits of IT certification so I could possibly do 3 more if need be - the limit is 9 credits of IT certs!

Are there any other exams that Excelsior will accept to help knock out these credits? I asked about the ICCP core exam and was told that they no longer accept it.

Excelsior is making me crazy!

I need 9 credits of IT elective to complete the plan for my BS in IT. I just can't seem to figure out a way to get these credits!

I am taking one ICCP, but the others 2 they allow are either ridiculously difficult (I tried some practice exams and with 15 years in the field I was confounded) OR they conflict with core classes that I already took.

I tried Penn Foster but the only courses that were both ACE approved and offered by PF (Introduction to Computers, Microprocessors and Applications) overlapped with other courses I've taken.

I tried a 200 series COMP course at Excelsior, they said no!

I am really frustrated! How can I finish these 3 credits once and for all? Do I have to go through 3 more complete Excelsior $900 courses? There must be an easier way Sad

1) Does your last 2 courses have to be upper level?

2) Have you checked with Excelsior to see if DANTES Introduction to Computing won't be considered the same as CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications? Make sure you can get credit for both.

1) They don't have to be upper level, no.

2) I asked to take that exam, but was given the following response:

"Those two exams are Applied Professional credits, meaning that they are free electives, which you do not need"

I never really understand how they evaluate these. I do have DANTES Introduction to Computing and Management Information Systems on the list already!
