I am pretty weak in the old english skills (thats what I get for writting LE incident reports for 12 years) Which one is going to be my best route? and do I need to complete the essay portion. I am looking at TESC probably a liberal arts degree.

I am curious about this as well. I have an English 101 class under my belt and I still need the English 102. If I take either one of these I wonder if TESC will apply the 3 hours of English and then use the remainder for a general ed elective 3 hours. Thanks for posting this. I hope someone that knows the answer posts.

TESC requires the Essay portion of either test, and will only grant credit for 1 or the other of the tests, not for both. I've taken both, and would strongly suggest the English Comp w/ Essay, even though the Essay portion was, for me, a hideous experience. Here's the thing - the multiple choice section will count for 50% of the final score, and the EngComp multiple choice section is much easier than the FreshComp multiple choice section. For EngComp, CLEP scores the essay; for FreshComp, your college scores the essay. Since you've only got 45 minutes to write a full essay on a prompted, totally random subject, odds are you don't want your school of choice to think that said essay is a true indicator of your writing ability. Other benefit to the EngComp is that the combined score will be available for 20 years, whereas for the FreshComp essay, the essay's only available for 90 days.
Regarding the credit granted - odd's are, if you've already got Eng101 and need Eng102, and take CLEP Eng Comp which correlates to EngComp 101&102, then the EngComp 101 will be considered duplicated and you'll get credit for the Eng102, with the other 3 'tossed.' They won't allow a duplicated course to count as GenEd.
