Info Lit/Penn Foster/Excelsior - bettymagic - 01-21-2009 I asked Excelsior for an approval for Info Lit from Penn Foster and they wrote me basically saying that an advisor will approve the credit "ONCE" the transcript is received from Penn Foster, and that "ALMOST ALWAYS" Penn Fosters Information Literacy Course is accepted. So am I supposed to just assume that they WILL or ARE accepting PF info lit?? I hope so because I called PF today and ordered the course:eek: You know when I was getting approvals for clep they would say "most certainly we accept that clep course, good luck and we'll update your status as soon as we get your score" I mean I could almost hear the hilarious as I read the response. But this time I heard  Allllllrighty then, I received my book Jan 30, did the exams that midnight when I finally had a chance to sit down and flip thru the pages. The exam looked pretty simple, actually unbelievibly easy that I'm sure my 10 year old could do it! It took me less than an hour to complete (it is not timed) and submit my answers. I ended up missing 4 on test one and 100% correct on test two. So I get a 90 total. Just like that! I came back here just to let anyone in the future reading this who may have any doubts about this elementary waste of time class that you might as well get it out of the way, do it through Penn Foster and save yourself 210$ From what I understand by reading TIMCOINC's response to mine is that you can even access the test after paying for it through Penn F website student services page and do the exam before you even get the book! Just a thought. Good Luck All, tootoleloo!! Info Lit/Penn Foster/Excelsior - Joel - 01-21-2009 I'm curious about the PF Info Lit course. Is it considerably cheaper than the EC version? I took the EC version, which was $250 and took me all of a half hour to complete. Info Lit/Penn Foster/Excelsior - craftkc10 - 01-21-2009 PFC's IL course is $90 and consists of two 50 multiple choice question, open book exams. It takes an hour or so to complete the exams and log your answers online to see how you did. Info Lit/Penn Foster/Excelsior - craftkc10 - 01-21-2009 Bettymagic, my advisor pre-approved PFC's course to satisfy the IL requirement before I took it. EC's catalog says they accept DETC accredited schools' courses that have been ACE-approved, so I sent my advisor the ACE recommendation with my request. My advisor's response: "The Penn Foster College course is fine for Information Literacy. I will put an approval in on your MyEC webpage for this." This was just a few weeks ago. Info Lit/Penn Foster/Excelsior - mongoose65 - 01-21-2009 I also got the thumbs up from EC for PF's Info Lit course. Credit will transfer and it satisfies the Info Lit requirement. I haven't started the course yet (have a CLEP this Sat I'm cramming for) but it looks pretty good at first glance (online). Penn Foster was very pleasant to deal with. I spoke to Tom. Info Lit/Penn Foster/Excelsior - Nana - 01-21-2009 I requested permission from my advisor at Excelsior to do the PF Info Lit class; another advisor approved it, but did not but it in my "approved list of courses". A few days later, I sent another message asking approval for the PF Physical Science course and my advisor approved it. She also put the Info Lit in my approved list of courses. I finished the Info Lit class in a short period of time. This week I received the official transcript from Penn Foster. I did not open it so I wouldn't have to request another one and pay the $15 (or whatever it is). I mailed it right on to Excelsior. Info Lit/Penn Foster/Excelsior - pmc2009 - 01-21-2009 I just recently (in the last 2 weeks) had Info Lit from Penn Foster added to my Excelsior transcript, so they definately do take it. I did run into a little snag though - Penn foster originally sent my transcript as Penn Foster High School in error. Excelsior would not take it on a high school transcript so Penn Foster resent it (at no charge) as Penn Foster College. Penn Foster also recently discontinued the proctored exam on this course, so just the 2 online quizzes and your done. Info Lit/Penn Foster/Excelsior - bettymagic - 01-22-2009 I re-submitted an approval request being that I never formally got one a week ago. I mentioned that as far as I knew Penn Foster is DETC and ACE approved. My approval was granted superfast. Info Lit/Penn Foster/Excelsior - Timcoinc - 02-02-2009 Called Penn Foster on 1/23/09 ordered Eng 103. Got email and set up new student account. I was able to log in and get to the study guides, did the graded project and final over Jan 24-25(about 2 hours total). After I completed the final, I logged into my ACE account, put in the Penn Foster class (Eng 103) and finshed date of 1.25.09. On 1.27.09 it was listed on my transcipt. No procter. I still have not received my book in the mail. Total cost was $ 90.00. I am not currently enrolled at EC, just got this 1 unit class out of the way, and saved money. hilarious |
