TES Online Courses Assignments - danidoll - 03-19-2009
Hello Everyone!
I'm enrolled at TESC taking the bachelor's program in Business Management. I'm taing 3 courses this semester, 2 online, and 1 guided study. I started off alright, but then a ton of family emergencies came up and now I'm 2 months behind on assignments. Are there any penalties if I submit them now, as they will be 2 months after the due date(It's hard to understand what TESC means by "work at your own pace")? :confused:

Hi!
I am a student at TESC. If you are extremely behind, I would recommend filing for a course extension. This will give you the extra time you need (I think the fee is around$150, but worth it if you would have to drop or fail the course otherwise). There is one caveat, however; I believe you are not able to make up any discussion postings.
In terms of TESC being a "work at your pace" situation, it is not. In fact on-line classes require a great deal of discipline and can be very demanding. I think this is even more so than traditional classes, having experienced both.
As far as whether a professor will accept late work, not all do. However, although I have never filed for a course extension personally, I believe they are made to assist in times where the completion of your coursework within the specified timeframe is not permissible, such as in your case. Professors will require a formal course extension to accept the work past the end date as far as I know.

Is "work at your own pace" written on a syllabus somewhere? The guided study? None of my online courses at TESC were "work at your own pace" we had a strict schedule that laid out point deductions for late work.
If this is only the guided study that you mean, I can't help you, but for the online class- you need to contact the professor and file an extension ASAP.

Thank you for the replies! I'm confused. By due date, I mean the actual due date for each assignment. I still have 1 month left for the courses, and if I work hard, I know that I could cram all of those assignments into the last month. Is that permissible? I thought that course extensions were for if you couldn't finish the course within the 3 month period...:confused:
Oh, and it says "work at your own pace" in a lot of places on the Student Blackboard when describing the courses. I just couldn't find anything on penalties/what they specifically meant by "work at your own pace".

Your class syllabus list due dates. Each individual instructor has late policies- some dock points, others give zeros, others cut you some slack. That isn't a question for the board, it's a question for your mentor. Good luck!
