For those who HATE this whole thing! - jcameron - 03-31-2009 Many peopleâs dream is to graduate, maybe with honors and what not. Iâm not going to lie to you. I despise every single moment of it. Iâm only going to college because I have to. Work makes me do it. I cannot wait until this is all over. I could not care less if I graduated with straight Cs. Iâm trying to do the bare minimum to get this all over with. Iâve always felt pretty bad about going to school and stuff but I think the older I get the worse I become. Itâs not that it is difficult for me; itâs just that I donât like it. Think of trying to make a kid enjoy broccoli. Who here is with me? Be honest. Jump in or flame on... For those who HATE this whole thing! - annegirl - 03-31-2009 Wahoo. This is just the thread for me! I actually enjoy the school process, I'm here to let loose on one of my classes. I am so so sick of studying Thanatology (the study of death and dying). It brings up all kinds of memories (doesn't help that my Grandmother passed away 2 years ago, yesterday). I am forcing myself to finish up, textbook is due back on Friday and the test is waiting for me at my proctor site right now. fooey on you Thanatology.
For those who HATE this whole thing! - studyhard - 03-31-2009 Your problem is probably that the traditional approach to learning doesn't fit your learning style. Reading books, writing papers and taking tests are the handy tidy way to teach mass groups of people at once. But some people just aren't wired to enjoy that stuff. My guess would be that you enjoy stuff that's more real-life, hands-on, adventurous, interesting...stuff like that? In which case, the problem isn't you, the problem is that your learning style just doesn't fit the traditional system. For those who HATE this whole thing! - MISin08 - 03-31-2009 Broccoli and CLEPs -- yum -- pass the butter! ...but I learn better taking a more meandering reflective route, I just don't have time to get the diploma that way... Phillip For those who HATE this whole thing! - jonasling - 03-31-2009 jcameron, maybe it's the program you are taking. Which degree are you attempting? For those who HATE this whole thing! - jcameron - 03-31-2009 jonasling Wrote:jcameron, maybe it's the program you are taking. Which degree are you attempting? I'm actually in a "special" program. All I have to do is take 1 class at a time for seven straight weeks, 1 night per week for 3 hours. There's no (real) tests either. Only homework and maybe a final paper or take home test. Yeah, I know, it's pathetic. I have no idea how they're allowed to be in business. That's an accelerated adult program, they have traditional classes during the day. But like I said before, all I'm looking for is a piece of paper with my name on. It's not that I'm against education. I'm against the way it is taught. How many of you remember what you learned on your first semester, even you got an A? Does anybody think that taking one class of any subject than never seeing that again will prepare you for the job market? I would much rather take 5 classes for 4 straight years and actually learn something. I'm a business major. I'd go with 4 years of economics, finance, marketing, world studies (geography/history) and maybe the last one could be something that changes. The way the system is set-up right now you can get a business degree from Harvard and all you're good for is being a secretary. Let's face it. Having an undergraduate degree nowadays is like having finished middle school back in the day. By the way, Harvard would not be any more difficult for me than my current "pathetic" program is. The less is demanded from me, the less I want to do. Remember how I said that one of the only things that is demanded from me in my program is doing homework? I do that at work just hours before class. At least I'm honest... Am I alone on hating this whole thing? What about you people? For those who HATE this whole thing! - jonasling - 03-31-2009 I hear you. Sorry for your situation. I would resent having to do something if it made little sense to me either. For those who HATE this whole thing! - CLEP101 - 03-31-2009 jcameron Wrote:Am I alone on hating this whole thing? What about you people? Hi jcameron, I guess everyone has different reasons for trying to get a degree, or just taking classes. I have made the Army my career and plan on retiring in about 7 years. I guess I don't really need a degree, (my wife will pick up the tab ). I am actually planning on making money out of my ranch when I retire. I should be able to live very comfortable with that. But I guess the reason I'm doing this college thing is not because I like it, it's because its free (the Army is paying for it) and my career has slowed down enough where I can accomplish this. Many people who aren't as fortunate would kill for their college to be free. Besides, it keeps me busy when I'm deployed. In the next few years, I'm planning on finishing up a Masters degree. I'm guessing it will look nice on the wall.
For those who HATE this whole thing! - Levi - 04-01-2009 I'm actually very thankful that I can get my degree without "going to college." It has saved me and my family so much time and money, and I don't have to deal with foolish professors. Maybe it would help if you would re-evaluate what you want to do. I don't think I would enjoy this if I was doing something that I was obligated to do. Hey, try to look at the light at the end of the tunnel...it's all going to pay off! I can feel your frustration, though. It's hard!

Over 50% of those who start their bachelor's degree won't finish- and of those who do, a high percentage take longer than 5 years. Finishing is an accomplishment any way you look at it. So, love it-hate it- just do it.
