Can anyone tell me if they know of an RA college that has independent study courses without time controlled homework? The ones I have looked at today all slow down your pace or cap the rate that you turn in assignments. Anyone?

Hi Jennifer,
I have used CSU Pueblo courses. I think each course/instructor varies but the operations management course was entirely self-paced. I am currently in Strategic Management and have been able to control my time, with the exception of waiting for the proctored exams to be sent to my community college. All in all, I have been very happy with the courses and the instructors. They have allowed me to work quickly but it seems there is always something that slows you down. The course list is here. That's the first school I looked at. Here is what their policy book says:
Time Limits/Extension Requests You have 6 months to complete the course, unless otherwise stated in your individual course syllabus. The minimum time required to complete a course is twelve weeks.

That's interesting because it didn't apply to operations/production management. I finished that one in 2 weeks and my grade was posted immediately. I have all my assignments done for Strategic Management and am waiting one more assigned paper and the exams. I have been working on this one for 3 weeks. I would assume that it depends on the instructor and the course. These 2 courses are in the Business School and they seem ok without time limits. I am also enrolled at Adams State College for Organizational Communications and they do enforce a 6 week rule.

I used Brigham Young University Independent Study to Speech (TMA 150 Public Speaking) requirement for my CCAF.
BYU Independent Study - Distance Education Courses - Online Learning
I also used Idaho State University Independant Study to Fill my Written English Requirement (Engl 101: Introduction to college writing)
Independent Study in Idaho Distance Education
Both were very flexible on time frame (about a year to complete), and neither (for the 2 classes I took, at least) required any proctored examinations.

Idaho State's distance ed program, along with LSU's, are the cheapest ones I've seen by far. After I finish my admissions paperwork for TESC I'll probably take two courses at ISU so I'll post some feedback on that.

I agree. I am in progress on Idaho's PHI103 ethics course, and PHY100 physics. My only gripe, is that my ethics course requires 5 :eek: text books- lucky for me I found 3 last night on ebay for under $20 total...but the other 2 that "must" come from the campus book store have me worried.
