Ladies and Gents:

It appears that either our friends at the college board or prometric have invited me to espouse my opinion on credit by examination to a market research firm. I'll let you know how this goes but it should be interesting, not to mention the fact that I am going to be compoensated for my time as well.

We gather opinions of consumers, executives, physicians and other population segments for different companies’ marketing needs. Currently, we are conducting a market research study with students from around the NYC area. The discussion will center on your views towards college credit by examination and their role in the college completion process."

Be wise.

UPDATE:

Well, I went to the market research focus group in NYC last night. There were about 10 other people there and there were slightly more females than males present. It turns out I was randomly selected from the database of e-mail addresses the college board collects off of the test reg. info. The college board, purveyors of our cherished CLEP exams, paid for the focus group.

Out of the group, only 3 of us were big 3 students; the rest were b + m students.

Most of the group had only done one or two exams except for the big 3 students.

About half failed their exams.

About half of the b & m crew found CLEPs to be the hardest things around and preferred traditional college courses.

I suggested that CLEP develop a managerial accounting examination and some upper level (300's, 400's) exams. I also critiqued several local test centers, some of the tests, etc.

Instacert was only used by me and the other 2 big 3 students. I was the lone ranger who knew about REA books!!! A big complaint amongst nearly all the students was the "lack" of accessible test prep info.

B & M students for the most part had a difficult time jumping through hoops to get info on their college's clep policy.

I was the lone ranger who had successfully passed a DSST. One of the other big 3 people had taken one and she failed.

Anyway, that's all I have for now. It was a good time and I hope I was able to help improve the CLEP program.

I'm glad you suggested more upper level exams. I have taken both CLEP and DSST exams and I much prefer the style and study resources of the DSST exams. I haven't failed any attempted to date, but much prefer the DSST and have stuck with them. I also like that the DSST allow us to get graded credit instead of just pass/fail...at least at EC. I hope they institute some of the suggestions. They also need to automate their system to allow for electronic transfer of transcripts to speed up the reporting process and track the process. Thanks for updating us.

Lack of prep materials... Sometimes the problem is wading through all the stuff that's out there! (Not for the Literature in English GRE though.)

Good job on being a shining example of an All Pass student. The rest of us can only hope that this evaluation thing happens to us. *Sigh*

I'm sure that their research shall now conclude:

A. IC is an incredible qualitative method of study.

B. Having passed a variety of both CLEP & DSST exams that you are an incredible quantitive student.

C. There is an abundance of exam prep materials out there that are both qualitative and quantitative.

D. And finally.....The NY Yankees are going to win the 2009 World Series! Rolleyes

What an interesting group. They were savvy enough to attempt CLEP exams for college credit yet somehow apparently don't know how to type "CLEP" in a Google search. A lack of accessible test prep. info???? I guess the spoon-fed b&m crowd needs the materials handed to them when they sign up for the test or they consider the materials "inaccessible." How do you not immediately stumble upon at least InstantCert (hooray) and iStudySmart (criminally expensive) along with a host of others. New services are cropping up all the time.

Thanks for going out there and representing for the ICers.
