English class upper level required soon - LatinTea - 12-08-2009 Does anyone know of an upper level English class (not a test), specifically of an important author (or authors) that can still be taken this coming semester? We are now searching for this. I am going to check all our local colleges, but so far the one I did look into has a HUGE amount attached to its credits when you only take a few. Try $1200 for EACH credit! Outrageous. English class upper level required soon - NAP - 12-08-2009 Hi! I assume this is for Ruddigore to finish a major in Literature after doing so well on his GRE. Have you looked at the options in this thread? http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-thomas-edison-charter-oak-specific/7560-finishing-up-ec-lit-english-major.html I hope this helps! Since writing the above, I have called another college here and they wanted $980 per credit hour. This is for someone who just wants to take one or two classes. They seem to think this will keep the riff raff out I guess. I'm sure there's some financial advantages for them, but I don't see how anyone can afford that cost. I'm tempted to call them again and dig into it some more. For a full time student, the above school charges $295 per credit hour. We have found a few good ones online since then so I think we will be fine with being able to get the classes needed for a decent price. I'm off to look into it some more.

However, being borderline obsessed about possibilities, I did some research about this very requirement you are asking about. I didn't find much, but one class I found seemed to be a perfect fit. The class is through Adams State College distance learning. Some other people on this board have used this college as they are fully accredited and Excelsior almost certainly will accept this. The class is ENG407 CHAUCER Distance Learning, English Courses, Extended Studies, Adams State College http://www.adams.edu/extended_studies/img/eng407_chaucer.pdf You can also read about in their catalog, which is on the website. I believe you can finish it in a minimum of six weeks, and it is only $375. I'll take $125 per credit. I believe it is open enrollment. Surprisingly, this is the only class I could find that meets the criteria and is reasonably priced. English class upper level required soon - LatinTea - 12-09-2009 Yes, I looked at that yesterday. They have Shakespeare too. Wouldn't that one qualify? How about the Studies in Major Authors? Does it have to be just one author? Sorry, we aren't enrolled yet. Otherwise, I would ask EC, but everyone is so helpful here!

Yes, I know the frustration of not being enrolled and wanting to move forward, as I am in the same position. I would be really surprised if they didn't accept this course; perhaps you could ask to speak to someone about this situation considering its urgency. In terms of Shakespeare, I THINK they will accept it as upper level credit. The reason I am not sure is because Shakespeare is also a core requirement. I'm not positive that you can use a course to satisfy both the core and upper level reqs. I'm hoping they do because then I will have them both satisfied with my UL Shakespeare transfer course. Your post reminded me to send an email to the Chaucer course professor asking about how long the enrollment period will last... I will let you know when I get a response. English class upper level required soon - daniellevine - 12-09-2009 Daniel, my courses are open enrollment and you have a year from registration in which to do the work. If you need the registration to note a certain semester--and some students are quite particular about that--you need to make sure you register at the right time. I am sure that, when you register now, the registration will say Spring 2010. You can register any time until late April and the registration will read Spring 2010. There is a six-week minimum time requirement set by the college, but the Chaucer course would take at least that long. It is a great course; although I teach others at the 300-level and 400-level, Literature of the Middle Ages and Chaucer in particular are my specialties. I look forward working with you should you need to enroll. have a blessed Holiday Season and greetings from Dr. Daley Koos Daley, Ph. D.
