Abnormal Psychology ECE is UP! - sgloer - 11-07-2006

I just posted the new Abnormal Psych materials. If Excelsior has a practice exam for this subject, I would recommend supplementing our materials with it.

I think the materials were well-developed in accordance to the content outline and should work on their own, but I say better to be safe than sorry! Smile

Please provide feedback if you take the exam........

Thanks for completing this Steve. I will start studying tonight and probably take it next week sometime as the test arrived on the base this week. There is a practice exam through Excelsior and I definitely plan on taking it, I'll let you all know how it turns out. Any word on the completion time on Research Methods in Psychology? No pressure, I just need it to finish my degree......Rolleyes Lee

Here is a copy of the page giving the details of the practice test, I tried to link it but it requires you to be logged in to their web site. Please read below to get further info:

"EC Practice Exams Registration

Excelsior College Practice Examinations Registration

Q: Who can register for an Excelsior College Practice Exam?
A: Enrolled and prospective students are eligible to register and take online Excelsior College Practice exams after registering for the corresponding credit-bearing examination.

Q: What are the benefits of the practice exams?
A: The online practice exams provide you opportunities to test your knowledge of the exam content and to receive valuable feedback to guide your study. In addition, they enable you to sample the types of questions used on the actual examinations and to practice testing on a computer in a timed environment.

Q: What does the practice exam cost?
A: Each practice exam set consists of two different 100-item tests. The cost for each set of practice exams is $60. Registration is only available online, so you must use a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover) to pay your practice exam fee.

Q. Once I am registered, what should I do?
A. You can access your Practice Exam by going to your MyEC page and clicking the link for your exam in the "My Online Courses & Learning Aids" box on the side of the page.

Q: How long will I have to test in one practice exam session?
A: Once you begin a practice exam session, you will have two hours to respond to 100 test items. Once you begin, you must finish the practice exam during the timed two-hour period. A testing clock will show you the time remaining during each testing session.

Q: Once I register, what is the time period during which I can take the practice exam?
A: You will have 120 days to go through the practice exam exercise. During the 120 days, you will have two opportunities to take the practice exam in two different forms and to receive feedback regarding your answers for each. We recommend that you take an exam for the first time shortly after you have registered. After completing the practice exam, you will receive immediate feedback on your performance. The feedback you receive will help you determine areas where you need further study. You should plan to take the other practice exam before the 120-day window expires. Please note that you will not be able to print the results of your practice exam sessions from your computer.

Q: What happens after the 120-day window expires?
A: You will have access to each practice exam and your results only during the 120-day period. After 120 days, the examination and the results you received will no longer be accessible. If you do not take your exam during the 120-day period, you will not be eligible for a refund.

Q. How do I report technical problems?
A. If you are experiencing difficulty with your computer, please contact Technical Support.

Q: May I take notes on the practice exams or share the practice exam questions with others?
A: No. The practice exam questions are protected by copyright and may not be disclosed in part or as a total examination. When you register for your practice exam, you will be asked to agree to abide by the Excelsior College Academic Honesty Policy and Electronic Use Policy before completing your registration. You can review these policies by clicking on the relevant link at the bottom of any Excelsior College Web site page."

Thanks Lee, that's good to know. Research Methods is in development; if things go really smoothly it should be available by the second week in December (fingers crossed!)

Great news! Once Research Methods is completed (December) IC will provide all of the study materials needed for a BS in Psychology by exam, with the exception of one Information Literacy course required by Excelsior. This is huge for IC and everybody looking to get a BS degree 100% by exam.hilarious

I didn't know Instantcert could help with all of the psych exams... does that mean for Excelsior's BS Psychology degree? I see ECE Abnormal, CLEP Human Growth/ ECE Adult-Aging/ ECE Gerontology, and CLEP Intro to Educational Psychology, which would satisfy three of the four central knowledge areas at Excelsior, but I can't figure out the fourth. Would ECE Organizational Behavior or DANTES Drug and Alcohol work for a fourth area?

Drug and Alcohol will not work. Excelsior considers it an Applied Professional course. Here are the exams that I used to fulfill the requirements.
CLEP
Introductory Psychology
Intro to Educational Psychology
Human Growth and Development

Dantes
Statistics

American College
Organizational Behavior

ECE
Research Methods in Psychology
Abnormal Psychology
Psychology of Adulthood & Aging
Social Psychology
Gerontology
Hope this helps.
