Excelsior history research requirement - 007fan - 11-19-2006

First, I just to say that this is a great site. I have been a member for a few months now, and this is my first posting. The maturity level every one of you show each other, and the help that is offered is outstanding.

I am enrolled at Excelsior BS in History, and my question really concerns the course requirements for Historical Research. I don't know of a clep/DDST/EXE exam that would cover that. Also, I have been looking around for a substitute course for it. I was just wanting to know if anyone has found a substitute for that requirement or if they just sucked it up and took the course.

Any help would be much appreciated

Hello 007 -

First of all - Welcome to the IC-Forums!

I'm going to presume that this would be something along the line of "Research Methods" having not heard of any type of exam that would cover that kind of requirement. I'll presume that you'll contact your academic advisor for further information.

I'll take a look at some D/L classes and see if anything matches and post more if I find something - Good Luck!!

Excelsior has a great search function that will turn up all kinds of things. I'd check there first and then contact your advisor for approval. I'm difficult so I always ask that they put the approved exams on the website. That way you have some proof that you are on the right track.

Always be sure that you click on the distance learning hot link after the first search.

Try SUNY-Empire State College at http://www.esc.edu and look under the distance learning catalog.

They have two Historiography classes. One is 2 credits and one is 4 credits, and they are both upper level. The cost is $181/hour. Look quick, because both are only offered twice a year. (Once in Jan and again in Sept).

If you are able to get approval for the 2 credit version to meet the History degree requirements with Excelsior, please let me know, as I was thinking of taking this myself.

Thanks,
Cederic

Thanks for the tips everyone. I was able to call my advisor today during their hours. I did a search on the website, and found Brigham University has a Research in Family history independent study course. Excelsior said that course will cover the research in history requirement. If anyone has had any history with Brigham University, I would appreciate the info good or bad. Thanks again.

The research requirement is now covered by a History Capstone at Excelsior.
