Chances of Passing SS & H ? - mingzayni88 - 02-02-2010

Hello,

I am supposed to be sitting the CLEP Social science and History test this Friday.

I'm a bit nervous because I just made the arrangements today.

My question is with my background, What do you lot think my chances of passing are? Here is my history:

CLEP

intro to Sociology Passed (set this in Oct. 2009)
intro to Psychology Passed (set in Nov 2009)

Humanities passed (set the same time as Psychology)

Western Civilization 1&2 passed both (set these a little under 2 weeks ago)

Eng composition 1 & 2 passed (set these the same time as sociology)

I also had taken and passed a fundational (nonaccredited) Business Economic and Finance class earlier this year, though I just passed it barely.

With my history, should I be ok to sit the test are is there anything else any of you recommend I study?

This particular test is crucial to my degree and i really want to pass this!

Thanks in advance! Smile

Sounds like you're on the path to getting 6 more credits. The only thing that I would recommend would be to take some practice exams and study the information you miss on those.

Good luck!

Hi!

I have not taken this exam, but I am using a study guide, which includes Social Science and History review materials and practice questions.

It is called Peterson's CLEP Success. It might even be helpful to look/read through it before you try the online practice tests.

Here is the link: http://www.petersons.com/pdf/free/CLEPSuccess.pdf

If you try it, let me know if you like this guide.

Best wishes on your exam!

This is not a very difficult test imo. You should do well on it considering your History background. I would have done better on it myself but it was one of the 1st ones I took back before I had CLEP's really figured out. I would say if you're scoring in the 70% range on practice tests you'll be fine.

I agree with 15% Luck. Not a difficult exam. History is not my strongest subject, but I do have an intuitive knack for social sciences so I was able to pass without much prep. It is worth beating the practice test thing to death, because it really is the best way to prepare. Good luck.

I see you have a good background in Social Sciences and the Western Civ is good, but I think you might want to get a little more into some of the world history and American Government(of course I have never studied Western Civ. So I am not sure). This is a doable test I agree check out as many practice test as you can find.

Thanks everyone!

I recently looked at the peterson test review link that NAP posted, and I realise that my weak point is US History (surprise surprise...I'm not American so my knowledge on US history is limited). So I think I'll look at that subject for a bit (along w/ some US gov) and then take the practice test and hopefully I'll get a good enough score!Smile

Hi!

so, I took the first Peterson's Practice test and scored 58% on the 60 question part and 52% on the 65 question part. I did this one before doing any study or review just to see what I retained.

Then I took the second Peterson's practice test after studying US history. i was able to answer more of those kinds of questions but to my surprise my score dropped dramatically into the 40s! :O

Before I try the third practice test I'm going to do as much review as I can on all the subjects. Good thing I have all weekend since my test date has been switch to Monday instead of tomorrow. haha.

I'll post how I do on the third practice test when I finish! Smile

Hehe... I just posted on this in the Math CLEP thread. In my experience, the 2nd test of the three seems to be the hardest test.

The practice tests that I've taken through Petersons are Am Lit, A&I Lit, SS&H, College Mathematics, MIS (DSST), & Humanities, and I've always score low on the 2nd test - except for A&I Lit, which I scored several points higher, go figure. And I've always scored several points higher on the third test than I did the second. I always make sure to give myself time to take the three practice tests (not in a row, but spread out over a day or two) because you never know what you might learn from the tests that may be applicable to the CLEP.
