TECEP Costs - Levi - 03-26-2010
After passing CLEP Marketing last Wednesday, I thought it would be logical to take TECEP Advertising next. So I've been trying to set up a proctoring session and register for my first TECEP.
However, just today I looked at the cost for a non-TESC-enrolled student, and it is going to cost $500 for 3 credits! I know that's not terrible, but compared to CLEP and DSST exams, I wasn't ready for that huge price. :willynilly:
TESC-enrolled students only have to pay $250 for 3 credits, so I'm thinking I will be waiting to take my TECEP exams until I'm actually enrolled with TESC in a few months.
Just my thoughts... Any advice or suggestions?

With the difference of $250 I would definitely wait until enrollment.

You guys must be full of money if you think $500 isn't terrible!!!
If you are adamant about taking Advertising, I believe you'd be better off taking a self-paced correspondence course through your local community college, Penn Foster, or Arkansas State University.
Arkansas State University only charges $248 for the class (I do believe they offer Advertising--check catalog link below) and that includes books. Here is the link:

I know it sucks to have to wait but unless you wanna spend the big $$ that's what you've got to do.
idk about this for sure but you may have to take the TECEP or the course from TESC....but maybe not. check before you go pay for a CC course.
I'm going to finish everything else first, enroll and then take my req'd courses and TECEP's. I'm not made of gold so I gotta get that $250/test deal.

That's exactly what I did. I took every test I could until almost all that was left were TECEPs, then enrolled before taking them. It's a big cost difference - especially if you have to take more than 1 (I needed 3).
I understand you wanting to capitalize on the studying you did for Marketing to help out with the Advertising test. Good plan but you'll be fine if you end up waiting to take the TECEP. You won't forget everything you learned - just a quick brush up will be all you need on the Marketing stuff so you can focus on the issues unique to Advertising.

Also, if you are going for comprehensive tuition, but taking less than 36cr -- remember it covers 36 credits! So you can use the remainder for TECEPs in any semester. :coolgleam:

The comprehensive tuition covers anything up to 36 credits/semester. So you'll pay the same amount for 36 credits or 24 credits. So when your class load isn't 36 cr/semester (does anyone actually do that, that's crazy!!), you can fill in with TECEPs :]

Quick correction: If you use the comprehensive tuition its 36 cred per year not semester and the compr tuition includes: OL, GS, epack, flash track and tecep exams.
If you are under financial aid (FAFSA/Student Loan) the tecep is added on to your compreh tuition as credits (no money required) with the stipulation that you must be enrolled in a 6 credit semester when registering. Which is a nobrainer because you must be at min part time (6cr/semester) to qualify for the SL. Otherwise pay back begins!
