Going To Disney World - Says my wife - CLEP101 - 03-28-2010

It is official, I will be wrapping up my tour over here in Korea in June. I will be taking 30 days of vacation and I need to plan a trip to Disney World to take my family.
Are there any Disney veterans out there that have any tips, best places to stay, money savers, etc...

The Military has "The Shades of Green" hotel but I've heard you can get better deals else where that has shuttles that takes you to the different Disney Kingdoms.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Shades of Green all the way. Here is the latest newsletter describing deals.

Shades of Green Enewsletter

BEST DEAL is the Spring Special (only $289 based on double occupancy)
3 night room accommodations, 3 breakfast buffets at Garden Gallery, Children 9 and under free. Valid March 21, 2010 - May 23, 2010 (blackout dates apply)

You have to consider that location wise.... Shades of Green is right on Disney property (across from Polynesian and Grand Floridian) and they have bus transportation to all WDW theme parks.

Disney's is running the $99 deal for military....admission to 4 parks, 4 days (last day to purchase July 31, 2010)

Sea World and Busch Gardens are free to military and families
Here's to the Heroes

Universal's new Harry Potter attraction is due to open in June

You deserve it brother. Amen. I've never been to Disney World but I've been to Disneyland many times. You definitely need to save where you can because when you spend a whole day there with your family, money dries up real quick, especially on meals inside the park and souvenirs.

I think it's great that Sea World gives free admission to those who serve. My 5 year old daughter gets upset when the Sea World trainers don't pick her to participate with Shamu out of the thousands of visitors:ack: .

We are going to try to go as well and have been looking for some deals. What about veterans, are there any deals for them? My hubby is a vet with a disability rating do they offer any discounts for them? I never thought about it before this post. Any info is greatly appreciated. I was getting quotes of $5500 from AAA for hotel / tickets only, add in airfare and it makes it impossible for us. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Geezer,
Thanks for the links you provided. I will definitely check them out. I just found out that my neighbor over here just got back from Disney two months ago with his family. He is going to give me the info for where he stayed. If I find something different and cheaper for civilians, I'll post on it.

If you are not looking to stay in Walt Disney and save money. I would go to Howard Johnson which is about 2 miles from there. There a few hojos and they all run about $30 maybe $40 for double bed rooms, jacuzzi and pool. The restaurants are in abundance in the area.
If you really want to save money go to a timeshare show which is 4 hours long maybe 2. :roflol: We did and got two free tickets. To be honest it was not that bad and my wife and I still have the memory of me being so cheap just to get two tickets. Just dont buy the timeshare. Because for just a moment there they make sense. :imwithstupid: Now if you want to get tickets the normal way. I would use AAA or your military card discount.
Make sure you check out Wet and Wild, Disney and Universal.
If you dont care about rooms the best I think hotel to date dont care how long its been is The Polynesian Hotel. You might be able to get a room for $200 a night. But the great thing is that its inside the park and the monorail runs through there. Dont do the Contemporary that place sucked i stayed there. It was nostalgic but worthless in the end.
Hope this helps.

LOL! This brings back dreadful memories. I'm a dinosaur now but when I was a young tyranosaurus rex, I actually did telemarketing for a timeshare company. I basically memorized a sleazy script to get potential victims...I mean buyers to come to these timeshare presentations. Needless to say, much of my pay was based on being a "Closer" but after setting up these appointments I ended up going home feeling like a greasy, slimy "Loser". I quit after a short period, even though I was pretty good at it because I couldn't get rid of that "icky" feeling no matter how many baths I took. It did teach me a lesson on the type of jobs and businesses I chose after that. Never sell a product you wouldn't sell to your family members and friends, you'll sleep better at night.

Why do all Jerseyites move to Florida? cheersmate
