Macroeconomics VS Microeconomics - joshjosh - 04-20-2010

Hi All

Can anybody please advise me [as I am from science background I don't know much about economics]


1 how easy is clep macroeconomics and microeconomics

2 Should I give macro or micro first OR it does not make any difference

3 Please suggest study material for these exam, Is IC is useful for this subjects???

Welcome to the forum!!

1) CLEP Macroeconomics and Microeconomics are both very doable. They are not the easiest CLEP tests, but they are also nothing to be afraid of. It sure beats sitting through a semester-long college course.

2) Take Macro first because it will give you the overall big picture of economics, and it's a little easier than Micro.

3) IC is very helpful. I also supplemented IC with the Barron's book for Macro. And I used the Cracking the AP Economics Exam book for Micro. I also watched the Standard Deviants videos, which were somewhat helpful. All of these materials I borrowed from the library.

I do not recommend the REA guide for CLEP Macroeconomics because it is far too vague, in my opinion.

And use the Peterson's practice exams to help gauge when you are ready to take the actual test. Smile

Just my 2 cents...I did Macro before I knew IC existed, used only the REA guide and thought it was pretty good
(Although per typical REA fashion, occasionally on a practice test they'll say B is the answer and then explain why C is correct Wink ).
I was scared to death of this exam because I had no background for it and suck at math...but I pulled a 58 with just over 2 weeks of study, and did not feel at all unprepared with just the REA info.

I took both micro and macro a couple years back. I don't remember what my exact scores were, but they translated to A's at Excelsior. I only studied with the Cliff's AP study guide which included both micro and macro. I took micro first, but I don't think it would have made much differecne either way.
