Physical Therapy Assistant - pcs - 04-24-2010 My wife is thinking about becoming a PTA. Does anyone out there know which on-line school would be good for it? Physical Therapy Assistant - perrik - 04-25-2010 The short answer is "none". See the FAQ for the American Physical Therapy Association, which accredits programs for PTs and PTAs. No program held entirely online is CAPTE-accredited, because you need the hands-on clinical work. Some states will allow you to be licensed as a PTA even if you graduate from a non-accredited program; your profile says you're in Pennsylvania, which does require graduation from a CAPTE-accredited program in order to register for the exam. (click on the link for "Application: National Physical Therapy Examination (PT & PTA)" to see the application - the requirement is stated under Eligibility Requirement for examination) There are 13 CAPTE-accredited PTA programs in Pennsylvania, and hopefully one is near you. If she wants to become a physical therapy aide, our old friend Penn Foster College has a fully-online diploma program!
