My Grad School Thoughts - Masters/PHD
(03-22-2020, 11:42 PM)bjcheung77 Wrote: My BA Comp Science courses are done.  Here's a plan for people who are thinking of a BA Biology at TESU
Alternatives: APUS or Excelsior BS Natural Science with a concentration in Biology - not a true Biology degree
The best completely online alternative might be this Logan University Bachelors of Science in Human Biology
Logan University Link: https://www.logan.edu/academics/bachelor...n-biology/

Charter Oak also offers a concentration in Biology within the major in General Studies.

Capstone $1098
Residency $2200
Grad fee: $332
12 courses: $779
BACS Requirements and AOS Total: $4409

Required Courses 18 credits

   Introduction to Programming - OnlineDegree.com $9
*Data Structures - Study.com $70 (waiting for ACE/NCCRS recommendation for credit)
   Calculus I - Study.com $70
   Discrete Math - Study.com $70
Introduction to Operating Systems - Study.com $70 (LL)
   Computer Architecture - Study.com $70  (UL)

B. Capstone 3

   LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone  $1098 @TESU

C. Computer Science Electives*  18 credits

*Operating Systems - $70 Study.com, waiting for it to be UL soon
    Programming Language 1 - $70 (Study.com C Programming Language)
    Programming Language 2 - $70 (Study.com Java Programming Language)
    Management Information Systems - $70 Study.com UL
    Database Management - $70 Study.com UL
    Information Systems Analysis & Design - $70 Study.com UL

I am taking more ACE/NCCRS Comp Sci courses such as the Study.com Comp Sci ones for learning purposes and review.

Update: I am looking into some Masters degree programs that are not test-out or competency-based, are there any that are "assignment or essay based"?  I think the Purdue Global MBA is all essay work and has two courses only.  I think the Amberton MBA is the same, I forget...

I kind of find it fun writing now after doing so many SL/Study.com courses that required writing assignments, it's feeling a bit weird just to test out of any courses. Furthermore, I really didn't test out of anything as I didn't do any CLEP/DSST... The only test-out-able Masters I recall are the HW ones...
Hey, BJ, with all the recent changes from TESU regarding SDC courses, are these course options still valid for the BACS AOS?

I've been chatting with fellow board members on this and the sister board, been looking at other options for "affordable graduate schools".
I may do the Upgrad/Deakin 1 or 2 year MBA instead of Walden MBA that has ACBSP, as this program is AACSB and EQUIS

I've debated on doing the following: TESU > Walden Psychology > California Southern PsyD (at about 30 grand)
However, most lately have changed my stance to Walden Psychology > UCN PhD Psychology for $8900 instead.

Yes, I've also debated on doing this: TESU > Walden MBA ACBSP > California Southern DBA (at also 30 grand)
However, now I am doing it this way: Walden MBA ACBSP > VUL DHA - I'll start VUL later, finish it when they have RA

I doing the Walden > Walden PhD

They give a 50% off tuition if you’re a member of the alumni ambassador. Plus I transferred in 25 credit towards my PhD towards from my masters degree.

Do you know what the Deakin MBA application and acceptance process looks like? I'm really interested in doing it, but I don't know how deep they dig. Technically, between my entrepreneurial endeavors and my last job basically doing ops management, I've got 3 years of experience running a business.

I've finally decided not to do a PhD, mainly because of effort and cost and the lack of any return on investment. PhDs are having a tough time lately, so if I go after a doctorate, it'll be later, when I have lots of money to burn.

My two cents on your options would be to take the Deakin 1-year course (the 2-year includes a management certificate which will provide no value for a Deakin MBA grad) and jump into a DBA with Cal Southern, because they'll likely accept the whole Deakin program for transfer so you'll only need to do the dissertation.

What value does a DBA add? Why aren't you doing WGU for the MBA?

There is a decent sized ROI if doing a residential, full-time, AACSB Accredited PhD program. You get a 100% tuition waiver, $25,000+ per year stipend and most graduates from these programs are making $150,000+ per year after they graduate and move into an academic role.

So just wanted to mention, I inquired Upgrad about the 1 year Deakin MBA.. They require students to have a PG in Management prior to starting the 1y mba. Even with a BSBA they said no can do.

Dare I ask whether any of ENEB's qualifications would fulfill this requirement?
