Guided Study courses allow independent learning in a structured format with the guidance and feedback of a mentor. Designed to be completed in a 12-week semester, each Guided Study course includes a detailed week-by-week calendar or schedule that will guide you through reading, writing and viewing assignments. Mentors, assigned by the University, formally assess academic progress through written assignments and proctored examinations. Mentors are available for consultation by telephone or email.

Online courses require the completion of assignments, examinations and final projects and also require participation in online discussions. The number of assignments varies from course to course. However, courses may have as few as three long assignments or many shorter assignments. Online courses usually include graded online discussion forums. Online courses include examinations, assignments and online discussions. Zero is assigned for each assignment and discussion not completed. Online courses put you in contact with fellow students and mentors using the Internet, allowing participation in public course discussions as well as private, collegial discussions.

When/where do you choose the study method? I just registered for the Feb class and wonder if I choose that once the class starts or if I missed something.

Thanks.

You would sign up for a different class depending on which option you're choosing. If your class code ends with -OL, you signed up for an online class. If it ends with -GS, you signed up for guided study.

The forum interaction is so easy in SOS-110, and it counts for 12% of your grade. I'd give the forum participation more consideration.

For the Capstone, different story, discussion made up 15%, but a lot more required, citing references, responding, etc... But for SOS-110, easy way to get 100% of 12% for your grade.

So you prefer GS for sos-110 and OL for capstone?

Personally, I prefer GS for both. Easy way to add 100% of either 12% or 15% to your total grade. The posts in 110 probably took me about 15-30 minutes each, so 12% of my grade in the matter 2-3 hours, not sure why anyone would pass that up.

For 421, it was more like an hour per post, so 11 hours for 15% of my grade. You can be the judge on how you want to use your time, but for 110 GS is a no brainer, imo.

Okay im registering like today or tomorrow so I'm trying to figure out what will be best for me. I like the way easy 100's sounds.
