How is a November Capstone
#1
IF I choose the graduate in spring, I need to take a November Capstone.  I am worried about the workload over the holidays.  Is it paced out well? Is there a break?  Are there a lot of assignments? I am at TESU but would be interested on any November capstone experience.

Thought I read way back of someone who completed it during the holidays but can't recall the thread.

Well it's a capstone so basically the entire course is you writing your final paper. If you can write well, you can do it over the holidays easily. If you can't write well, you are going to struggle.

How much free time do you have over the holidays? The amount of free time during the holidays is very different for everyone. How good at writing and researching are you? Capstone is all about writing.

I did a November capstone. It worked for me because my usual life schedule is lighter around the holidays. However, my family was not very patient with me not being as available as usual around that time of year. The hardest part was getting access to people I needed to interview for my study who were on vacation. We did not have any planned break for any of the holidays between beginning of Nov and end of January, my class had all the usual weekly deadlines.

You can pretty much count on needing to work steadily throughout the course. Since you basically have a major chunk of writing due every two weeks, it isn't easy to work around other things.

What does a capstone entail exactly?  Are you given a choice of topics?  Are there quizzes?  Isn't it like a 25 page thesis or something?

I'm assuming we're talking about the Liberal Arts Capstone.

Yes, it's essentially a 25 page thesis paper on a topic of your choice, approved by the professor. The first week you'll turn in research questions for three different topics of your choice, and the Prof will give you feedback on them. After that, you'll have drafts of parts of the paper due every two weeks, and the last 2-3 weeks will be spent combining parts and finishing the paper. Make sure you take all the instructor's comments into account as you revise and polish. If you take the online course, you'll also have blog posts due each week. I considered them free points. They added up to nearly a full letter grade and I didn't spend more than 20 minutes on them, for which I got 100%. The upshot was that I could have gotten a very low B on the final paper and still got an A in the course.

If you just hate the idea of doing blog posts, you can take the guided study version.
