From a finantial aspect Im trying to see If I could complete my degree in 2 terms? I have 22 RA credits though all lower level and will bring in max Sophia courses to transfer.
Im looking at the BA in English with concentration of Communication and journalism (46 credits!)
BLS with a minor in education or mgmt or (21 credits I think)
BA in English with a minor in education If they allow it (42 credits I think)
Or a BA in English with no concentration or minor If allowed ( for speed and price ... 21 credits probably)
Plus of course the credits Left to get to the 30 residency mínimum requirement of course! So mínimum of 10 courses but probably will have a few UL courses or holes to fill in as well.
I saw someone do 4 - 8 courses per term.
What aré your experiences with the time needed to accelerate? Is waiting on rough drafts approval a real time constraint?
For reference ... I did around 1 Sophia course per week except stats and public speaking lol. I havent tried SDC courses.
Trying to decide between COSC and UMPI Is hard!
UMPI Is cheaper If I can finísh in 2 terms though.
As an UMPI student, I will say it's different for everyone. Some courses I have finished all of the course content in 3 days and then taken 3 days to write the Final Assessment. Other courses, it's taken me 10 days to complete all of the course content then a day to study for the exam and then 3 hours to take the exam. All of the exams are 3 hours long. From what my academic advisor has sent me, there's only about 5 courses with exams and the rest are papers/projects. This can change from term to term based on the professor.
My first term I didn't put much effort into it and I completed 4 courses. My second term I started off with a goal of 6 courses and ended up completing 8 courses. My final term in coming up and I have 4 courses left. I really only have 3 but if I take that extra course I'm considered full time so it won't mess up my Pell grant. My plan is to complete these courses in 4 weeks so I have a 4 week break before I start the MA program at UMPI.
You can work on 2 courses at a time. That's all that is open to you. I submit a rough draft and then start my next class. When the rough draft comes back, I make any changes required and submit my final draft. I am still working on my second course during this time. Sometimes I've moved on to a third course because some classes don't have a lot of content. Some have a massive amount of content. The paper or project can also be very time consuming for some classes and others it's very short.
I'm in the BLS. My minors are Management, Project Management, and Management Information Systems. You only have to have one minor in the BLS. I'm working for my future though and looking at a new career and grad school which is why I have so many.
Ashkir has a thread on here showing how Sophia transferred in for him. A great deal of Sophia does not transfer into the GEC but will come in as general electives. You will need to complete 30 credits at UMPI. You will need to complete the GEC which is the gen ed requirements. You will need to complete the upper level major/minor and general elective requirements as well. My advise is to apply to whichever program you are most interested in. There is no application fee. The Sophia transcriptions can be sent from Parchment for $5.25.
UMPI is $1,400 per term. There are no additional fees. There are no outside textbooks needed. It's self contained like Sophia. There's an online library you can access for writing the papers. Unlike many other programs, you have an actual professor for each course. These are the actual professors who teach on campus. You can contact them via email. I've had Zoom meetings with a few to discuss my project as well. This is a lot different from what I've seen at other programs like WGU. I've had one professor over and over and she is writing me a letter of recommendation for grad school. You will also receive letter grades which is something to think about if you're thinking about grad school. Feel free to pm with questions!
